Haikyuu!! Movie: Gomisuteba no Kessen

When you watch this in a cinema it really hits, good atmosphere, very solid animation, however... I think it felt way too short, all over the place and rushed, I felt like I was just dropped in the middle of the game where I barely know what happens, I really love Haikyuu and binged all 3 seasons, So many emotions throughout the series, but this time was different, it was supposed to be a very important match where you really feel the pressure, but it wasn't as I expected. Don't get me wrong, overall it was still pretty good, it's not a total letdown or whatever, butpersonally I expected more, I expected that the movie would transmit more emotions to the public, I expected that I would feel the excitement of both teams, like I did in season 3 vs Inarizaki. What the movie lacked the most was IMPACT, because it felt way too much like a regular match and not like a decisive battle, I still felt goosebumps to some moments and it was awesome, but in the end it still didn't rose to my expectations. I'm pretty sure most of us remember the iconic block of Tsukki vs Ushijima, that scene had TONS of impact, it was heavy, it was so hype that makes you jump from your seat, well this movie lacks such moments and it's a shame. Overall I give it a 7/10 As I said, I still enjoyed it, but not to the extent I hoped, or maybe I'm just lying to myself because I paid money to watch it, I don't know. It could've been way better if we had a 2h movie at least.

Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely love Haikyuu. In a vacuum, would I recommend this to sports anime fans? Of course. But, this is yet another reminder of a lame and inevitable trend we're seeing of studios cashing in quickly on a film, rather than adapting the source material into a fully fledged season. The end result is that many of the scenes feel a little more rushed than necessary, the overall urgency and drama is reduced, and moments that are meant to be emotional and impactful just breeze by. Worse still, some awesome plays from the manga are even cut completely (Nishinoya backheel save?) YukiHayashi and Asami Tachibana once again kill it with the OST, and it's the characters we all know and love - but it could have been so much more. I hope part 2 has a different result, but I doubt it. Plot: 8 Characters: 9 Animation: 7.5 Soundtrack: 9 Enjoyment: 6

It's a different direction. I was surprised when I saw the movie was only 85 minutes, which is roughly 4 episodes time-length. But after watching, I can see the decision. This doesn't have the same vibe as the Seijou or Shiratorizawa matches, where it was "do-or-die", "we must win, if we lose it's all over". It was more like this is the biggest match of the year between the two schools, but not the final one; there will be future matches like this in the following years. So while there is action and high-paced movement, the vibe is relatively more chill; not as passionateand butt-clenching atmosphere. There's more emotional (though not heavy) focus than I expected. But what I really enjoyed was the varied camera perspectives. That's what was movie quality for me; the amount of value they spent in designing the different angles and shots. The sound design was also good for theatres; I could feel the weight of the collision sound effects.
