Dr.STONE SCIENCE FUTURE
Having resolved the crisis in the Petrification Kingdom, Senkuu and his companions gear up to deal directly with the mastermind behind the petrification phenomenon—who supposedly resides on the moon. The ambitious spaceship project, however, requires immense manpower and critical resources scattered across the world. Thus, the Kingdom of Science exploration team kick-starts its transcontinental journey on the ship Perseus to gather them all. Equipped with modern technology and bolstered by the new, capable members in their ranks, the exploration team feels confident about setting sail to their first destination: America. They soon realize that the region now hosts adversaries controlling the resources they need, doing so with scientific technology which rivals and even exceeds their own. In a battle of science versus science, Senkuu and his team must outsmart their rivals if they are to have any chance of ensuring the continued survival and rejuvenation of humanity. This season of Dr. Stone feels different from what we have seen before, but that makes sense since the story keeps progressing in terms of technologies and plot. Senku & friends travel to another continent, America, where they are met with people who have been depetrified. Unfortunately, those people have their own agenda and don't welcome strangers who would only interfere with their objectives. They will launch attacks on our protagonists and a battle between scientists ensues. The reason Dr. Stone: Science Future feels different is because, to me, it feels like there is less sciences than the previous seasons. At least, not the same sciencesas we have seen previously. The characters have to survive and defend themselves against technologies they don't yet have. The dynamic of this season is different but it is still as good. A little change is great when it makes sense, which it does here. That said, this season of Dr. Stone is still as funny as the other ones. I'd even say Senku gets crazier and crazier (in a good Senku way). He always surprises us with his choices and will never give up, no matter what happens to him. That guy loves sciences too much, and he will prove he can and will win. The plot with Why-man has not been addressed or mentioned in this season but it did not bother me because this is a step they needed to take in order to get closer to that mysterious person. It does not feel like filler as it has a purpose and they need it to be able to make their plan work and to keep progressing and moving forward. All in all, it was a great season, with lots of funny moments, lots of action, and a few plot twists that were amazing. It gathered everything I loved from the previous seasons, and I had an incredible time. In fact, I had so much fun that it felt like the episodes were shorter. I was not bored once. So, for everything I've just mentioned, it deserves a 10 out of 10. Thank you, Senku! Sciences is elegant.

Dr. Stone: Science Future — Let's get ready to enter the future of the Stone Age, one cour at a time! It's been 5.5 years since mangaka Riichiro Inagaki's Dr. Stone started featuring on the small screen, which was one of Weekly Shonen Jump's top performers when it was still in serialization. Still, to this day, the series continues to be even more popular thanks to the anime boosting sales along after the manga reached its conclusion way back in March 2022. That's the staying power of such an influential work that is rarely seen in WSJ's lineup nowadays. But back to the anime: after the initialstart and the arcs of Stone Wars and New World, we're finally at Season 4, the endgame of the final arc of the series, where Senku and the gang from the Kingdom of Science, now bigger than ever, traverse outside of Japan for the very first time into international land, sea, and air. Reaching Why-Man is just as important when they hear that he hails from space, but since they don't have the resources to do so, the outside is their only starting point... as the looming danger greets them of the first antagonist they encounter: former NASA scientist Dr. Xeno Houston Wingfield and someone whom Senku regards as his closest frenemy in terms of incoming trouble thus far. He, along with the few others who make up the American Colony team, is unlike those of Ibara's Petrification Kingdom the season prior, with their high advancement in technology that far outpaces what Senku and the Kingdom of Science have been doing all this while. They will not be an easy feat to overcome, but this is the accumulation of the scenario thus far for the 1st Cour here. As they say, "Leave the best for last," and this is where TMS Entertainment and Season 3 director Kurasumi Sunayama once again team up to give Dr. Stone the consistent shine that it always has deserved for the last 5 years and more going into the 2nd and 3rd cours as we slowly witness the epic finale to the entire Stone World saga. And when it comes to OP/ED songs, ALI is back with a renewed tour de force of an OP song, and hip-hop boy band BREIMEN's 1st Anisong is a great follow-up to the casino gambling features of the season (most promptly featured in the 1st quarter of the 1st Cour). What more could you ask of Dr. Stone's popularity being as great as it is and willing to expand even more? This is only the start of the Science Future finale because Dr. Senku is not done with his quest yet to find Why-Man, and so are we anime-onlies too in watching this epic saga unfold for an adventure that's larger than life. See you in July for the 2nd Cour!

**spoiler free brief summary** Story This season didn’t fail to be entertaining, but it also didn’t live up to the bar set by the first season. On one hand, it does a good job of sticking to scientific principles, but on the other hand it cuts corners on how those breakthroughs actually come together. Because of this, the story doesn’t always add up with the events on screen. Over time, I started to lose track of what was happening, and that made me less invested in the unfolding plot. The show leans harder into a kind of over-the-top thriller, where the setups are extreme and the solutions haveto be equally overblown. That’s a shame, because the core ideas are genuinely interesting. They just get buried under pacing issues and missed opportunities. Characters The characters are caricatures, with exaggerated traits, but honestly that’s exactly what this anime needs. Their personalities have the power to keep things fun and engaging moment to moment, especially when the story itself struggles. They are the main reason this season stays entertaining. Animation The animation is fluid when it’s there, but there’s not enough of it. What’s missing are the small, detailed sequences of building and assembling, the kind of moments that made the first season shine. Too often, it feels like the show skips ahead and just presents the final result rather than showing the process. Music I’ve always loved the Dr. Stone themes, and this season has tracks that are enjoyable even on their own. The only downside is that the music isn’t always used when it matters most. It feels like a missed chance to amplify the drama and emotion. Final Thoughts It might sound like I’m harsh on this season, but I don’t dislike it. Dr. Stone: Science Future is still entertaining, mainly thanks to its cast, who carry the show. The real issues lie in the pacing and the lack of those extra animation touches that make the science come alive. Compared to the first season, it doesn’t quite measure up. For me, that leaves this season sitting in the middle. I enjoyed parts of it, but overall, my feelings are mixed.

This is all excellent setup to an amazing clash between scientists for control over the future of humanity itself. The challenge that this season presents to Senku in particular is pretty unprecedented, in that he's fighting not just someone from his own time, but a person who is (potentially) his intellectual superior who has had plenty of time on his hands to prepare for other humans to arrive. He and his allies, particularly Stanley, are ready to go to war and are easily better equipped to win this fight, wielding a broad assortment of firearms, airplanes, submarines, and the manufacturing capacity to meet the momentwherever they need to. Senku and crew have equipped themselves decently well, but they're not at the level to be able to challenge these new foes. That makes this a very distinct battle from the rest we've faced so far, whether that was a society of warriors led by an erstwhile classmate or an island run by corrupt natives who have only a limited concept of what technology is and how it works. It helps that this is also an existential fight, and not just one over motivations, but one over access to essential resources and the capabilities to use them to revive all of mankind. Dr. Xeno really shines this season, as does Stanley. It's incredible that, after so many seasons introducing incredibly imposing characters from a physical standpoint, they feel immediately outclassed and it makes sense that they are. Much like in previous seasons, this becomes a race to outthink the enemy, but it feels more pressing this season. There's less of a sense that any single invention or modification will solve for the challenge they're facing as well, and with the group often split up, there's more of a sense that everyone's contributing to their actions. Really, the main thing holding this season back is that it really does still feel like a lot of this conflict is in its early stages, which, as a manga reader, I know it is. I fully expect the next part to be my favorite in the whole series, but for now, I'm satisfied with the setup.

Dr. Stone is back and better than ever in science future. Senku and the crew face their greatest threat yet, some of the biggest stakes and we’re finally outside of Japan and exploring the new world. This season has everything we’ve come to know and love from this franchise turned up to 10. The banter, the action and the scientific inventions but it’s even better this time around because of the fact we’ve got someone that can stand on equal footing with Senku as an antagonist. In previous seasons, Senku may have had physical disadvantages in a fight, but he was always the smartest inthe room. Xeno represents the greatest challenge Senku has had to face in the stone world and can match his intellect if not surpass it. It’s so fun seeing the two of them trade proverbial scientific jabs, going invention for invention and revolutionising the stone world. If you liked the idea of Dr. Stone, but found things a bit too convenient for Senku before, I think you’ll enjoy this season of Dr. Stone as we see him actually pushed and forced to rely on other kingdom of science members more! What’s really cool about this season of Dr. Stone is how we get to see two brilliant minds’ very different approaches to science. While Senku is very much in the business of using science for good, to restore the world to its former glory if not even better. Xeno is cruel, calculated and wants to weaponize science to bring people to heel. I found this philosophical battle between two people who were once close allies before the petrification incident to be really cool. Both approaches allowed the Kingdom of Science and Xeno’s empire to take huge leaps forward in technological advancement, but the priorities were different with Xeno’s being more military focused and Senku’s being more quality of life focused. It’s almost as if it’s a philosophical debate on the character of humans. Do we need to focus on weapons and killing each other, or should we prioritise making life better for each other? As the battle heats up, we see Senku and Xeno constantly trying to one up each other and every episode feels like it leaves off on a reverse uno move with one side temporarily gaining the advantage. This was exhilarating to watch. The side characters for both sides were very clutch in this season. Senku and Xeno might be geniuses, but they can’t do it all alone. Chrome, Ryusui, Tsukasa, Taiju and the new Luna all shined for Senku’s side and I’m a huge fan of Luna who was introduced from Xeno’s side and quickly became one of my favourite characters. Production values are always solid in Dr. Stone and this season is no exception, but some of the more hype moments look even better than usual. Voice acting as usual is top notch and they know how to keep us on the edge of our seats with direction. Those damn cliffhangers! No brainer to watch this if you’ve been into the series from the start and if you’re new, this is certainly something to look forward to. I can’t wait to see how the studio adapt some of the future parts of this arc as we’re really not even at its peak yet. Trust me when I say the best is yet to come for Dr. Stone. Science Future gets 9 out of 10.
