Cat's Eye is a remake of a fun 80s anime adaptation of its manga. The original anime was highly entertaining with a great score, well drawn and animated and each episode being a fun, if mostly disconnected story. The story itself had many holes but the time period it was set in without smartphones, social media and cheap HD surveillance devices allowed the more ridiculous aspects of the show to work. This remake unfortunately misses the mark on many things although it does have more of a connected plot after some episodes. The animation has a very cheap look throughout with occasional off-model drawings, the musicis a big downgrade from the original anime and the episodes just lack energy for the most part. Moving the show to the modern day was a mistake as believability is completely out the window. Somehow, the show expects the audience to believe that thieves walking around with their faces completely visible and wearing no gloves to mask fingerprints (not to mention DNA traces of their hair everywhere) are impossible to catch or identify. In the 80s, lower resolution cameras and more primitive techniques would somewhat allow that to fly but today that's just nonsense. There are many other holes but - even more than with the original - you're going to have to accept them to watch this show. As a fan of the original, the more connected story is an interesting change here and at least the second half of the show is better but overall, this is a very mixed experience. It is quite a short season so maybe in future seasons it will improve but I doubt it. Just watch the original, it's better.

Cat’s Eye (2025) is an incredibly fun and stylish remake that feels less like a replacement and more like a true successor to the original series. It’s packed with interesting heists, playful energy, and just the right amount of attitude to stay charming without taking itself too seriously. This is very much a “turn your brain off, sit back, and enjoy the ride” kind of show, and it easily nails that goal. The soundtrack is a huge highlight. Ado absolutely KILLS it. Using “Magic” as the opening is a fantastic choice, and keeping the original Cat’s Eye theme as the ending feels genuinely respectful. The outrodeserves special praise in itself: the hand-tracking concept is creative, fun, and very well executed. It’s rare to see an ending sequence that feels this thoughtfully designed rather than just a thrown together moving panel with text like a lot of other shows. What really makes this remake work, though, is the clear respect and love for the original. You can feel it in the direction, the pacing, and the attention to detail throughout each episode. The animation was also VERY well done, there was motion in every single frame. The update to modern technology is especially well handled. It refreshes the series without tarnishing what made the original special, making the story feel more relatable while slightly shifting the dynamics in a way that feels new rather than forced. This remake doesn’t erase the classic, it celebrates it, polishes it, and gives it a fresh coat of paint while keeping the core magic and spirit of the original series. This has to be the biggest hidden gem of the year and I guarantee a few years from now many Anime YouTubers will say this is a show that a lot of people missed out on. I genuinely hope it gets a second season, because it absolutely deserves one. Rating: 9/10

One of the best anime remakes I’ve ever seen! Simply perfect! One of the best openings and endings of 2025, Ado is the best! The animation is gorgeous, the voice acting is flawless, the OST fits the vibe of the series perfectly, and the characters are more charismatic than ever! Zero flaws here, a work done with total respect. I’ll admit that at first I didn’t have much faith in it, but it quickly won me over. I’m going to miss waiting every week for a new episode, not to mention the torture of waiting for the second part of this first season to begin. 😭 I can’twait for season 2! 🔥✨

The good: 1. The opening and the ending of the series are great, the music is catchy and the visuals are stunning. 2. The characters are true to their original manga and anime designs and counterparts where it matters most while updating things to a more modern time frame. 3. The story is much more compact then the original 73 episode series. The bad: 1. The story ends on kind of a cliffhanger but the story did as well so that is just how it goes. 2. Disney having the global distribution rights to this series absolutely destroyed any chance of it building a real audience because they split 12episodes into 2 6 episode short runs and had a solid few months between each part. In the long run it might grab more eyes now that it is all out there but in the short term it is almost DOA. Review: Cat's Eye the manga was an early 80's Master Thief style series so it follows all those kinds of tropes, as well as the things that were just popular in the early 80s in Japan. Rival thieves, secret identities, messy relationships with police officers, crime syndicates, the whole gamut. This series is a great update to that but at it's core it is 100% still a Master Thief story with some extra plot to tell us that they are the protagonists and the good guys and even the cops are not bad guys for wanting to catch them. If this is your jam then you will be sucked in and enjoy the series.

What an amazing experience this remake is. I enjoyed it a lot, even though the plot was showing its age. Some of them just weren't hitting me very well. Or maybe it's just that I'm at that age, questioning every detail in the story plot they make in a show. Idk. 😂 Anyway, onto the review. How did I find this? Doomscrolling Twitter/X. I found out this anime was a remake, and I had this plan to watch a lot of remakes before I watched the OG show. Appealing (Why did I get into the anime?) Man, do I need to say much? Look at those three women on thecover. Not only that, I read the synopsis. It's a story about phantom thieves. I had my fair share of a phantom thief story when I watched Kaitou Joker. I loved that show as a kid, so hearing the story was about Phantom Thieves, but with waifus material, I signed up to watch it. Platform Disney+ and Hulu. Luckily for me, my uncle subscribed to Disney+. I could watch it from his account. Whoop whoop! The review; Plot/Story Three siblings who run a cafe are also phantom thieves at night. The cafe and their phantom thieves' alias names were the same, which was Cat's Eyes. They did the Phantom Thieves stuff to find their dad. How? They are only robbing paintings that were made by their father. In the hope that their father finds them out, or at least, their father's relative finds out and helps them find their father. While this was happening, one of the siblings, Hitomi, had a boyfriend. Her boyfriend was a detective. A bad one, lol. Hitomi used him like a puppet, where every time they had a date to a museum, she planned to take her father's painting. Then the oldest sibling, Rui, had a massive connection throughout Japan. Then we also have the youngest, AI, who has an amazing talent for making incredible gadgets for their phantom thieves stuff. See, that's the first problem, Hitomi's boyfriend, Toshio. I... I just can't with this man. There are multiple instances he could have discovered that his girlfriend was one of the Cat's Eyes members, but nope, the plot said otherwise. I'm not really complaining because I remember the old story intended to make it like this. I mean, Superman. Come on, it was obvious who Superman was. Or should we go with anime one, yeah? Sailor Moon or Precure, it was not hard to find out who the main heroine was, yet everyone kept wondering who that might be. I'm just annoyed because that was the main plot for Hitomi's character development. YES! Toshio's ignorance of the reality check for Hitomi is her character development. It was really stressful watching that episode. Like, seriously, it was really hard not to cringe. Other than those, I was happy with how the story unfolded. I might add this too. This show focuses a lot more on Hitomi and Toshio. I'm noticing it as I finished the show. Sure, there were Rui's and Ai's moments, but those are really rare. I hope that if the rumored second season is true, we get to see Rui and Ai a lot more. Character Absolute 20's! What do I mean by that? It's very nostalgic because the characters in this show remind me of characters that were made in the 20's. Ahh, the nostalgia really hit hard with these characters. It was also making me more curious about the OG show. I wanted to see how the characters made back then compare to the modern ones. OST/SFX ADO... Me to you, sister. Those OP and ED were masterpieces. Both captured the 90's vibes while also maintaining the modern vibe. It was very groovy and very stylish. Other than that, I also like the OST and SFX in the anime itself. Two Thumbs Up! Animation I have talked about this on the "May I Ask for One Final Thing?" review, that this is one of Lidenfilms anime projects in the Fall season, and they were taking a break for QC. I'm happy. Their animation in this anime didn't feel like MIAFOFT's animation. There wasn't a single still image that was just a still image. Everything moved! And the animation on the action was great too. Or should I explain their ED animation? That was a phenomenal experience, and you can tell that, unlike MIAFOFT, they care a lot about this property, and I respect that. VA Two Thumbs Up! The conclusion; The good I'm glad I checked this anime remake. I really enjoy my time watching it. The bad Seems like they intended a second season by the look at the end of the last episode, and we don't know when that comes. Sadge. 😔 Graditute Thanks, Disney+ (Never thought I would say this, but here I am), for providing this anime to watch on your platform. And thanks to my uncle for permitting me to use his account to watch this show. I appreciate it! Overall 8.4/10 Would recommend. It's an enjoyable show that makes you want more.
