Kimba the White Lion
ジャングル大帝
Leo the white lion was born on an ocean liner that crashed on the shores of a bustling city, where he spent his childhood learning the language and customs of humans. But something was missing. In search of his family, home, and a place to truly belong, Leo traveled back to Africa and began his journey to become the King of the Jungle. Leo's adventure centers around finding peace between the animals and humans who live in his African home, often competing for space and resources. As he grows, Leo must survive both the area's harsh environment, dangers from other animals, and humans who hunt lions like him for sport. Only communication and mutual understanding can end the fighting, and Leo's knowledge of human culture may be just what the jungle needed. Jungle Taitei is the epic story of a young lion's struggles to survive in a dangerous land.

Kimba the white Lion is my childhood in a nutshell. Kimba the white Lion has the audience for children so I recommend watching it with your kids or keep in mind this show is for kids so it’s not meant to be filled with intense gore or crazy confusing storylines. Kimba the white Lion has such a beautiful story and message about animals and also about courage. It definitely reminds us we should be caring about forests and prevent hunting rare animals just for our pleasure. I think this message should definitely be taught to everyone alike. Kimba was really my role model as akid. Don’t be scared to fight for the right things and be kind to everyone as much as you can. I think it’s also an important message for children to learn and understand while enjoying this show. It definitely kept me watching everyday. Overall a big 10! It’s a story that we all love as kids and Kimba is the coolest Lion in the jungle. I loved all the characters and every episode definitely remained in my mind even after a good 13 years. A classic in heart and one to consider watching.

Where my anime experience began back in the '60s as a kid. Back then, local TV stations could pick this up real cheap, and it usually filled a slot between 3:00pm and 5:00pm every day. Even as an elementary school kid, I knew there was something so different and kind of special about it. I didn't know anything about Japan. All I knew was, Kimba is a lot cooler than most of the other kiddy cartoons at the time. Looking back I can feel a lot of nostalgia, but in reality I could hardly recommend it to a modern audience. The artwork is so simpleas to be less than mid. The animation today looks pretty brutal. The characters would seem cookie cutter, as they have been copied literally thousands of times as tropes over the year. The English dubs for their day were good, but have been far surpassed in the last 50 years. If I had to grade Kimba today, it's about a D at 65%. But it is not without its redeeming factors, and it definitely is a 'must see' for those interested in the evolution of anime as an artform.
