ワンピース 年末特別企画!麦わらのルフィ親分捕物帖
In an alternate reality world that resembles Edo Period Japan, Luffy acts as a member of the police. This is made up of two adventures: in the first, Buggy makes trouble in the town; in the second, a mysterious girl named Vivi appears (aired after Episode 253). This special contains several cameos from characters throughout the entire series. A second pair of episodes were aired after episode 290, continuing this story, as part of the New Year's special.

This is by far the most original and entertaining filler I have ever seen in a series, the characters completely maintain their personality all that really changes is the setting. Many many characters that were long forgotten or haven’t been seen since the crew left them, show up in these specials. The boss luffy storyline begins at this special and is then further shown in the anime as filler episodes at different moments. There are 5 boss luffy episodes in total.

I had a painful headache that started off from disputing how badly familiar this whole special was, I could have sworn that I have had seen it somewhere, on my first binge-watch, it was that Edo-period filler, but then again, there were multiple, and I have checked each one of them before proceeding into watching this, but still, it just was bugging me though, maybe because of how repetitive some of the goofs and plot threads are in One Piece. Given how old the episode was, the animation still had a lot to showoff. I actually find the old quality line strokes to be aesthetically pleasing, almost deliberate, it had something about the old One Piece, kind of clunky, pointy, goofy, and nostalgic. I really like how the entirety of the crew blend in so easily with this drastic time period change, the number of references and cameos are insane, they reminded me of the recent Hungry Days commercials.
