Since no one else has written a review for the OVA episode, I guess I'll try my hand at it. Tonari no Seki-kun is a light hearted comedy anime about the ways Seki wastes time in class, and how his classmate Yokoi reacts. The OVA is twice as long as a normal episode, and contains two 7 minute shorts. The OVA does a good job of establishing the basic formula which is used throughout the series: Seki starts playing around in class, Yokoi notices, and then reacts. This formula works very well throughout the series, with Seki's antics growing more unpredictable and hilarious. However, a lotof my enjoyment for the series came from Yokoi's over the top reactions as well. These two elements are both present in the OVA, which can be viewed either as a test to see if you'll like the series- or as just another episode. Tonari no Seki-kun is a great anime to watch for a laugh, as it doesn't get repetitive and keeps the viewer laughing with all of Seki's ridiculous games.

Tonari no Seki-kun OVA (2014) So with the set of OVA we have essentially 2 episodes. The first one is funny because you see that Yokoi has not actually changed since being a child. The second part we have cats and that makes it probably one of the best episodes. I made the mistake here I should have checked since this actually came out before the main show. Although that is fine since the story is practically non-existant and leads fine towards the show regardless. Yokoi is a reactionary character to Seki and his actions. The art is really good for 2014. Sounds is pretty good throughout. There is no real development outside of Yokoi just reacting to Seki. You get to see she loves cats and thinks they are cute which is just great. I would say try to watch this before the main show perhaps since the specials seem to happen directly after.

Because this came out immediately before the main series, the characterization of Yokoi's relationship with Seki isn't very developed yet. In the first one, she doesn't get involved at all or drawn into any narrative. In the second one, she resists for far longer than she would, and gives in because cats are adorable. And cats are, indeed, adorable. To be honest, because of this, I would recommend watching this before the main series because it's a little jarring to come in expecting a sequel where they might get a little closer and find out that it's (from your perspective) a reset to the beginningof the show.
