Ten years ago, the World Tree that protected peace and order of the world was being targeted by an evil organization called the Zakum. The Human race led four other races: the brave warriors, the intelligent magicians, the agile archers and the sly thieves in a fight against the Zakums. In the end, the World Tree activated self-destruction to protect itself. However, the other races thought it was the Human race that destroyed the World Tree. When the World Tree was destroyed most of the races had nothing left, so a number of them went to Maple Island thinking the ones who stayed would die. They escaped Victoria and lived on Maple Island where living is getting harder and harder. Since then, a never-ending war between the different races began. Ten years later, the main protagonist, Al, is determined to revive the World Tree. Al and his companions begin their journey to seek the seeds of the World Tree. At the same time, the Zakums reappear… (Source: Wikipedia)

This shit is wack as fuck, talking about some "Maplestory". This adaptation of the pioneering MMO isn't worth mentioning to anyone, anywhere on the planet. There is nothing noteworthy to talk about and it fails to capture why the game was enjoyable to begin with. I'd rather play the current, updated Maplestory on the regular worlds that are still being milked today with their damn potentials and cubes than re-watch this horrendous attempt of a show. Play the game and go on Reboot. Hell, play from the multitude of private servers that are currently up for this game. You won't find any enjoyment in watching this, especially Maplestory players who've seen the in-game cutscenes and have read the lore.

It is pretty hard for me to write a review for this anime. Being a huge fanboy of MapleStory I try to rate is as objective as possible. Let's start with the good things. -- The art style isn't that bad, it has its fair share of cute details and is really bright and colorful for the most part. Apart from some weird faces I really could not find anything bad about the art style. Even if simple, it fits MapleStory pretty nicely. The story, while rather mediocre, actually kept me quite interested. There were some interesting twists here and there and the it progressedin a comfortable speed. To be honest, the end wasn't that great, but it's an anime aimed at kids so I can forgive it. What I really loved about the anime itself was the fact that it... well, that it's MapleStory. Seeing the lands you have traveled, the monsters you have fought, the characters you have met was great. It really hits right in the nostalgia for people who have played the game. And while this might be the greatest strength of the MapleStory anime, it might also be its weakest point. People that did not play MapleStory will get very little out of this, expect maybe if they're kids. Another problem I had was the sound. It's just really bad. MapleStory has a damn good ost so I wondered why they didn't use more of that (3 "remade" songs of the ost are used afaik). The problem with the sound is, that it has very weird timing. Often the background music isn't even fitting. Like, the situation is sad but happy music plays. Sounds and songs are reused way too often. And don't get me started on the voice acting. I watched the Korean dub and the voice of the MC was so annoying I almost dropped it. Overall are the (Korean) voices unemotional and just plain bad in general. Most of the characters themselves don't offer that much. You get some bits of backstory here and there but most of it has no relevance at all. The MC is a "let's all be friends" type of guy. Which I found pretty annoying most of the time. Other characters like Nina or her pig are pretty charming and I actually wished they were the MCs. I can't quite figure out why they didn't use more characters directly from MapleStory apart from ALL monsters. The MapleStory anime could have been pretty good with a bit more polish. It definitely has it's charm and MapleStory fans should watch it anyway. People with no relation to MapleStory probably should stay away from this.
