Ever felt so unmotivated in life that you were too tired to watch even one episode of an anime? Well if that's the case Ame-iro Cocoa may help cheer you up a bit. You may well even end up having some motivation to make yourself enjoy a cup of coffee. Rainy Color is where our cute young boy Aoi works at as a coffee maker. There are three other boys who hang out at the cafe talking and gossipping about various things and that's pretty much the story. Aoi, our young coffee server is a shy boy who is often mistaken as a girl. Shion ishis senior who works with him. Ryota is a happy-go-lucky guy who hangs around the cafe a lot and to his opposite is Kei the cold-hearted guy who for some unknown reason, seems to dislike Aoi. There's the owner of the Rainy Color as well but even for such a short amount of time the show covers he's only seen twice the entire series, in the second episode and the last. However, he appears in the opening song and is seen laughing hysterically for some unknown reason. The characters are neatly drawn in this anime, the backgrounds are kept simple and plain. There's a twenty five second long OP for this two-minute anime and if you see it that way the quarter of the show is covered by the song itself. But the song is pretty nice infact, and there's very little music in the show. Even if it's a very short anime the voice actors used in it are pro's. Miyano Mamoru, well known for several of his voice actings, plays the role of Ryota in Ame-iro Cocoa. Normal souls would find it pretty hard to comprehend this and I can feel them as there's pretty much nothing to be gained from watching this. This makes Ame-iro Cocoa share a similarity with another one of the short anime, Pupa. However, the two are vastly apart from being similar as Pupa tends to make itself known to its viewers for a long time using some other kinds of means which I wouldn't want to mention. As short anime's come and go Ame-iro Cocoa will certainly not be remembered, but yet this is one anime that can not be loved nor be hated.

I'll be completely frank, this anime is utterly boring. I watched the whole thing again after it was complete, thinking, that maybe I'll find something interesting about it. But nothing. I was almost glad it was only 2 minutes an episode, that's how bad it was. There is pretty much no story here. The art is simple and animation is basic, nothing interesting about it at all. The characters are completely plain. There was no character development, basically everything stayed the same the whole show. The sound was close to alright, it was calming and set the mood right but that doesn't make up for the anime at all.Overall it's a 3. I didn't enjoy it at all and I'm pretty sure many wouldn't either. It has nothing special about it and nothing interesting happened at all. Just a waste of 24 minutes. If you want to watch short anime I would recommend Orenchi no Furo Jijou or even Ai Mai Mi!, at least THOSE are interesting shows. (Guys, even Pupa was more fun to watch than this. FREAKING PUPA!)

Ame-iro Cocoa, is a VERY SHORT show about our 4 ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ characters, that work in a cafe. That's really all it is. Story: 5/10 The story centers mainly around 2 ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ working in a cafe, brewing coffee and occasionally chatting with the only regular costumer (who is also a ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆) The story is nonexistent. That's not a bad thing for this show *cough* Vampire Holmes *cough* since it doesn't feel like it want to be funny, have a deeper meaning or tuck on your heartstrings. It's just about 2 ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ and their ever absent manager, working together in a cafe. It's good and quite relaxing honestly.Art: 7/10 The art is your typical shoujo-esque style, but with a hint of pointy yaoi chin. The backgrounds are really well done. You easily get the cafe feeling, with the coffee beans on the shelves and the fine cups that they're using. It helps create a relaxing atmosphere. Sound: 7/10 The opening is quite catchy, but not enough to get inside your head. The voice acting is good. They sound convincing and it doesn't feel forced. The sound effects, like cups clanging against the table when they're placed, or the small footsteps on the wooden flooring are very well made. It feels completely natural. The only thing i really can complain about with the sound, is that the opening song is playing in the background throughout each episode, like some sort of elevator music. Characters: 5/10 The characters are not that well fleshed out. Not that they need to, don't get me wrong. I can immediately tell you that you shouldn't expect any character development. The characters do a fair "job" at their posts. The silent, but ever smiling guy behind the bar, brewing the best coffee you'll ever taste. The greenhorn waiter, who does his best at chatting with the mysterious ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ regular (who apparently loves dogs). The guy who occasionally shows up at work and makes others wonder what he actually does, and lastly, the very mature and of course ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ manager, who SOMEHOW is managing to keep the place up and running with only 1 returning costumer. Enjoyment: 5/10 It's well made for a 2 minute show. It creates a relaxing atmosphere and easily sucks you in. The voice acting is believable and the sound effects are keeping the immersion of being in a cafe from breaking. But it all falls short and gives off a "meh" feeling in the end. Overall: 5/10 TL;DR If you want a 2 minute show that manages to create a cafe environment with a relaxing atmosphere, lighthearted jokes, no character development and ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆, then this anime is definitely for you.

Anyway, my grade is pretty high. It's a short one but I guess I cannot compare short ones with long ones. I really liked the idea and I can see a potential in this one. I would actually like for them to make a longer version. I liked the art very much and the boys are just to nice and they are all different types of people. I come from a country where coffee shops are very popular and people like to go out and have a cup of coffee with friends. I think that's why I partially liked this and I liked how the guyswere bonding randomly while all being completely different type of people. It was short and sweet. All I can say about it. And also...I don't know if I'm the only one but it reminded me of Free! so much.

(Note this is my first review on MAL so if its unprofessional I apologize) Shorts are a hit or miss type of thing so the best route is the comedy route since its short and the show wouldn't overstay its welcome. But despite this thing being short there is little merit to it. Lets get the positives out of the way. The art looks nice though choppy (more on that in animation),VA is good, and its less than an hour to get through an entire season which thank goodness it is because any longer and it would have been dropped. Story~1/10 Its boring even for a SOL.Now SOL relies on characters at times but they still tell a story of sorts unless your Lucky Star and you relies heavily on comedy. This doesn't, there is no story at all thus I cant get attached to any character. The comedy is terrible and unbearable. In other words this story isnt a story. Or events for that matter ,its just unfunny moments happening that I dont give a care for. Characters 1/10 Speaking of which these characters. Now Im not against archetypes or cliches in characters but one need to make something unquie about them. There is nothing interesting or hood about them. Ive seen better characters in shows better then this. Hell Yumeira of all things has better characters, the hell! I dont remember a single name out of this cast. At all, there are the most boring characters ever and there all unmentionable or memorable. Animation and art ~4/10 The art looks decent which is good if your drawing bishonen or bishoujo characters. But what it suffers from is the animation. Its lack luster ,movements look clunky at times to the point I assumed it was made in 2005. It made Yumeria look like it had Accel World animation quality which can I just say if shows made in 2012 or worse 2004 look better then Im sorry your animation is terrible. Ugh moving on to sound. Sound~2/10 The sound is non existent in the background. Op and Ed are forgettable. The VA are decent so Ill give them credit for that. Enjoyment ~ 1/10 I would rather watch Yumeria then this because it at least made me feel emotions ,sure I hate it but its better then being bored. Little to nothing is redeemable so this show is pointless. Overall~2/10 Your better off watching something else. Ill check out season 2 still just to see if they fixed this train wreck but if they dont then oh well. Can I ask what was the point in this show ,seriously? Well then next time I hope I can cover something better then this garbage.
