A huge space monster appeared in a city and began to destroy the city. People were escaping with screaming. Among them, there were five high school students, En, Kai, Shin, Yoku, and Ryu. However, they failed to escape, and they rushed into a patrol car parked nearby. The monster was approaching to them. When they began to accept their death, the patrol car glowed blue white and disappeared into a mysterious space carrying them. When they were astonished, it was an alien that appeared in front of them. He was a Bravian who is an officer of the Space Police Organization that was responsible for the peace and order of the universe. He explained them that he was aimed at by ferocious aliens in the Space Prison Sargasso. He added that he had given them a battle machine "Dag Beagle" made by copying machines on the Earth in order to fight against Sargasso. They turned into Dagwon by the power of Bravian, and fought against space monsters. At that moment, the patrol car came in front of En. En grew into the car and turned into the Brave Robot Dag Fire, then beaten the enemy. However, the fight between the Brave Dagwon and the felonious aliens of Sargasso had just begun.

felt like a cross between gundam wing and transformers. This seemed like it had a lot of potential but could have used a bit more work. That aside I think this was an amazing anime. I loved the transformations and the mecha designs, as well as the combining scenes. And the animation when they combined was top level, and wish they brave series was still going as would have loved to see more like this. Tho I feel the characters could have used a bit more depth like more about them revealed and also some things I wish were explained better.

Dagwon, the penultimate and 7th entry in the brave series. By this point in time the brave series had gone with several themes, including trains, treasure hunting and the police force, but what makes dagwon stand out from those previous entries?. Well...basically its SUPER SENTAI/TOKUSATSU inspired theme. From pure concept alone, dagwon may just be my absolute favourite in the whole of the brave series, however in execution dagwon isn't really all that impressive. Story - 5 When I said 'SUPER SENTAI' inspired I really meant it; dagwon's story feels like its been flat out ripped off of a toku series. With a mysterious alien empire ledby Ark seijin invading earth, its up to a group of teenagers with attitude (literally) En, Kai, Shin, Yoku, and Ryu recruited by brave seijin to save the world from destruction. If you're familiar with toku or even power rangers this set up should sound very familiar to you. Whilst the is pretty predictable; with new mechas, team members, gained along the way, resulting in more villians revealing themselves from the shadows and some casualties in the main cast, dagwon isn't at all groundbreaking in terms of its story and what i deem the weakest element of the series. Art - 6 From the designs of the mecha alone, Dagwon probably has some of my favourite designs in the whole brave series (particularly 'Shadow dagwon' and 'Dagfire'). With the legend himself kunio okawara credited as the main mechanical designer, the blocky, bulk look of the robots with some bright popping colours to go along with them, the mecha of dagwon are excellent in my opinion. The henshin suits/devices of the dagwon members aren't of anything to note really, however the actual character designs are another story. Compared to previous series entries, dagwon seems to have opted for a more realistic and plain design for its main cast of characters compared to a more stylized and cartoony look seen in the likes of Goldran or Might gaine. Aparently with the young females of its time, and that definetly shows in the character designs, with the more 'Bishounen' aesthetic for the main cast, its non my cup of tea, but it certainly isn't bad. The consistency of the designs vary between, but i genuinely felt like it looked pretty flat and dull, atleast untill around ep 37, where there is a sudden upgrade in art and animation which was certainly a treat. Sound/OST - 6 Getting the sound design out the way first, it wasn't anything bad or that special, with nothing really standing out in that department in my opinion. The actual OST was ok, it doesn't have many stand out tracks (except for the OP and ED), and wasn't too memorable so I'll say it was probably the second weakest element of the series. Characters - 7 By far the strongest element of the series, Dagwon's characters are very entertaining; the chemistry between the main dagwon members is pretty good, as they really develop into a team who can rely on one another in the most dire of situations (with the expected quarreling along the way). The auxilary mecha in this one did have some personality though, with gunkid and Lian get some good focus and a satisfying conclusion to their story arc. My favourite member overall was probably ryu, as he was pretty cool whenever he showed up along with ninja skills. My least favourite was probably Geki, as he was kind of annoying and definetly had my least favourite mech/design (however I did feel bad for when he didn't end up with maria in the end). The rest of the reccuring cast is nothing worth mentioning except for the ark seijin villan (who was pretty generic, and there's not much to say as we really didn't get a backstory for him and the villan trio later down the line) and maybeMaria and her little brother sometimes getting saved by the dagwon team, but other then that weren't that significant and maria especially was annoying and just hanged around the leader En alot. Overall - 7 Dagwon definetly isn't my favourite entry in the brave series, but it has alot to like in it and those strengths really do help to raise its overall score to a 7 (because otherwise it would have been a 6.5 at best). Some strong characters and great mecha design, dagwon is highly recommended to big fans of mecha, tokusatsu or just big fans or just brave series completionists. Otherwise...i dunno....it was aparently popular with bishounen fans i guess...

Conceptually, Dagwon might just be my favorite in the entire Brave lineup, but its execution leaves something to be desired. Story When I say "SUPER SENTAI-inspired," I mean it—Dagwon’s plot feels like it was lifted straight from a tokusatsu playbook. A mysterious alien empire, led by the Ark Seijin, invades Earth, and it’s up to a group of attitude-laden teens—En, Kai, Shin, Yoku, and Ryu—recruited by the Brave Seijin to save the day.If you’ve watched tokusatsu or Power Rangers, this setup will feel like second nature. The story unfolds predictably: new mechs and team members join the fray, more villains emerge from the shadows, and a few main characters meet tragic ends. While it’s not revolutionary, the familiarity isn’t inherently a flaw—it’s just not Dagwon’s strong suit, making it the series’ weakest aspect in my view. Art The mecha designs are a highlight, easily some of the best in the Brave series—standouts like "Shadow Dagwon" and "Dagfire" come to mind. With the legendary Kunio Okawara as the lead mechanical designer, the robots sport a chunky, bold aesthetic paired with vibrant, eye-catching colors. I’m a big fan. The transformation suits and devices for the Dagwon team? Meh, nothing special. The character designs, however, take a different turn. Unlike the stylized, cartoony flair of earlier entries like Goldran or Might Gaine, Dagwon opts for a more grounded, realistic look. It’s clear the show was aiming to appeal to the young female audience of its era, leaning hard into a "bishounen" aesthetic for the main cast. It’s not my personal taste, but it’s not poorly done. The art quality fluctuates—feeling flat and uninspired for much of the run—until episode 37, where a noticeable boost in animation and visuals kicks in, offering a welcome surprise. Sound/OST The sound design is fine—nothing terrible, but nothing remarkable either. The soundtrack is similarly middle-of-the-road. Aside from the opening and ending themes, which are solid, the OST lacks standout tracks and fades from memory quickly. It’s not the weakest part of the series, but it’s a close second. Characters Hands down, the characters are Dagwon’s strongest pillar. The core team’s chemistry is a joy to watch—they evolve from a ragtag bunch into a tight-knit unit that can lean on each other in the toughest moments, complete with the usual bickering along the way. Even the supporting mechs, like Gunkid and Lian, get some personality and satisfying arcs. Ryu’s my top pick—his ninja skills and cool-headed presence steal the show whenever he’s around. On the flip side, Geki’s my least favorite; he’s grating, and his mech design didn’t help (though I did feel a pang of sympathy when he didn’t win Maria’s heart). The recurring cast is mostly forgettable. The Ark Seijin villain is your standard evil overlord—generic, with no backstory to chew on, even when his villain trio shows up later. Maria and her little brother pop in occasionally to be rescued, but they don’t add much. Maria, in particular, gets on my nerves, hovering around leader En without contributing anything substantial. Overall Dagwon isn’t my favorite Brave series entry, but it’s got enough going for it to land a respectable 7 (otherwise, it’d be a 6.5 at best). The standout characters and stellar mecha designs carry it a long way. I’d recommend it to mecha buffs, tokusatsu enthusiasts, or Brave series diehards looking to complete the set. Beyond that? Well, it apparently struck a chord with bishounen fans back in the day, so maybe that’s a draw if you’re into that vibe.
