Hortensia SAGA
オルタンシア・サーガ
A violent rebellion in the capital led by Duke Rugis Camellia wreaks havoc on the Kingdom of Hortensia, leaving every member of the royalty either dead or missing. Barely escaping with his life, knight Maurice Baudelaire flees the ensuing chaos after his brother, Fernando Albert, is killed by a werewolf in battle. To honor his legacy, Maurice treks to Albert's house and delivers his son, Alfred Ober, his father's sword. Despite his grief, Alfred is reminded of a vow he pledged with his father—to become a knight so that he could protect his land, the Albert Dominion. Under Maurice's tutelage, Alfred hones his combat skills to fulfill his promise. Training alongside him is Marius Casterede, an intriguing boy whose age seems to be more than meets the eye. Elsewhere, Pope Alexi Valdebron delivers the order to capture the missing princess and crowns Charlot D'Hortensia as the new king. Hortensia Saga is a tale of camaraderie and determination as Alfred, Marius, and Maurice work together with friends of past and present to bring forth light amidst Hortensia's dark times. Hortensia Saga is an odd one. On one hand, it’s yet another generic fantasy gacha adaptation. On the other, it was actually quite enjoyable for me. I’ll be quick and brief with this one, everyone knows I am easy to please with anime. Story doesn’t have to be top notch or revolutionary, I like good character interactions and waifus. Hortensia has neither. The plot does nothing to actually draw you in and interest you. The characters are all shallow and have no real depth to them, other than the main antagonist whose motivations are still rather generic. Despite the complaints, I actually did find theshow to be fun to watch. It’s one of those situations where you know something isn’t good, but yet still like it. I definitely would not recommend this show to most people. The CG in the show is pretty damn bad at times. When the fight sequences stay 2D, they’re decent. But, often times monsters and fights went with the CG style, probably to save the staff time and effort, but it just didn’t look right at all. The still art is really good, though. Backgrounds are bright and colourful and I do like the character style. If you’re looking for a fantasy gacha adaptation to watch, try Priconne or King’s Raid. Hortensia Saga is painfully average and will most likely be a chore to sit through. Hortensia Saga gets 6 out of 10.

I gather more proof every day that the people in here have no clue what makes a good show. The fact this one has this low a score is another piece of evidence.Im close to building a case at this point. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't some hidden masterpiece with some pseudo science that nobody understands . It's actually quite a simple premise, a linear plot and for the most part it's predictable. But none of these actually make this show a failure. Because it does what it sets out to do extremely well. And the animation isn't half bad either. Characters are notvery complicated, but they are solid and well enough fleshed out. As much as you could with this quite big number of characters in a short 12 episodes without sacrificing story or narrative. And before most of these special powers get introduced , most of the action keeps a certain level of realism. Like all the blows that put down fighters in armor happen to the weaker side of the armor around the neck and stuff. The one time villain priest also has a logical motivation and all his actions are made sense of as well.... It's just a solid anime overall. Of course , i really got annoyed at the end before the final reveal, but that redeemed the end as well. Ignore the score, and give it a watch. Im glad i did the same. It's a solid experience . Just don't expect a masterpiece of any kind and you'll enjoy it.

This anime had a lot of potential to be a solid 6 or 7 out of 10. The story was alright as long as you don’t think about it too hard and the animation and soundtrack are pretty great. It’s honestly a passable watch until the last two episodes. The ending left me completely unsatisfied and honestly shocked at how terrible it was. Most of the conflicts were unresolved and the big sacrifice at the end was completely undone in what might be the worst case of Deus Ex Machina I’ve ever witnessed. To summarize, it’s a 4.5 hour mobile game ad that’s just asdisappointing as the 30 second ones.

no spoilers the story it self is quite good and the plot twists were pretty entertaining, i would say the weakest point of the anime is its characters , the characters were so weak and very 2 dimensional and unfortunately couldn't carry the story which caused the entire show to fall apart. the story was good but a bit rushed and the ending was a bit of a shock but nice. it had so much potential to be a fantasy gem but couldn't make it the VAs r some of the big names in the industry which was nice. but overall it absolutely doesn't deservethat very low score it has

Hortensia Saga is a kind of melodrama about a kingdom and its allied dominion. The story is about a princess trying to take back the kingdom while fighting supernatural beings. The plot had some potential but the story and the events were written far too horribly and the characters never got a single chance of development. It was some sort of melodrama, unnecessary sad scenes, too much friendship power, and a lot of unexplained things. The antagonist and side characters never had any depth, to begin with, and the protagonist never got any development. It was just one bad fight and he learned everything about thesituation. The character of the maid gets pretty annoying at one point with the screeching voice and over-excitement. The animation was alright although the use of cgi was terrible and the background fights were so bad to the point of laughable. The art was also far too downgraded compared to other anime of the same time. The anime could have been an average series if they focused more on character development, story events that had a real impact rather than just being a melodrama and giving better story and direction to side characters and antagonists. The story just barely scratches the plot in my opinion if they had taken their time and made a 24 episode series and shown better parts like showing more about dominion warfare and involvement and giving better history to support the story. All and all the anime as it is right now it's just horrible and I will not recommend it to anyone.
