Tomino's final Gundam work... and quite possibly his last contribution to the anime medium as a whole, and realizing that, it's kinda melancholic, but his legacy will live on as it has been for decades. Watching this, I was in awe with how well crafted this was, every frame and every dialogue (even the useless ones), and every little detail carried the signature of a master who has spent decades honing his craft. Tomino's directing style is very unique, actually, it's legendary in this medium. The way he focuses on the tiniest of details, the subtle expressions, the naturalistic movement, it all makes the animation feelless like moving images and more like something truly alive, something breathing. His approach doesn't focus on just telling a story; it creates a world that pulses with life. Gundam G Reco is a brutal tale of war, anger, jealousy, hatred, revenge, and death. Yet at the same time, it's also a story of peace, hope, love, forgiveness, and life. It was genuinely heartwarming to witness the growth of characters who once seemed childish and foolish, and how they eventually became fine human beings, and if you've watched other Gundam shows directed by Tomino, you will understand why people say that it's very "Gundam-y". People have very various opinions about G Reco, but this is the most "Tomino" Gundam title ever. It carries his vision and soul of every Gundam he's made, which I believe makes G Reco the perfect goodbye message from him to this iconic franchise.
