Viper's Creed

Despite the low viewer rating and the first review here for Viper's Creed, I absolutely loved this anime and I'm really hoping for a sequel. Story: 10--a good story, especially for so few episodes. Yes, the general storyline is a classic one, but it's a storyline that works, which is why it's been used so many times. Art: 8--at the beginning I remember thinking that the art could have used a few more frames to smooth out some of the movements, but overall it's animated in the usual style for the newer anime, and the action scenes are done really well. They knew howto create tension with the visuals as well as the storyline and sound effects by zooming in on something and omitting the focus. Really keeps you watching. Sound: 9--consistently throughout the series, I was amazed at the background music. It set the tone perfectly for each scene without making the view actually notice it until the director wanted the viewer to notice. Also, the ending song is my newest favorite (will be listening on repeat for another month). Sound effects were good overall, though most are the usual mech anime sounds (hydraulics, gunshots, metal, etc.). Character: 10--Great character development. They structure the story so that you really invest in the characters, even though the anime is so short. Very realistic characters, flaws and all. At times you want to hate them, at times you want to just hug them 'til they suffocate. (o.O moe?) Enjoyment: 9--absolutely loved (almost) every minute of the anime. I usually go for happy anime (Shugo Chara anyone?), and too much strife mid-series can permanently turn me off of a series. Great beginning, great end, it's the middle you have to watch out for. So, I docked one point, but still, it's a 9/10. Overall: 10--period.

I've not seen many bad anime in my lifetime but this is for sure one of them. While it's for sure not the bottom of the barrel by any means it's easily the worst anime that I have personally seen. The story makes no sense. Nothing is explained. The main characters and organization just fight generic robots on highways in their mech-cars/bikes. It's like the show can't decide if it wants to be post-apocalyptic or be futuristic sci-fi so what we actually get is something generic and uninteresting. The artstyle and soundtrack is fine for its time. The OP is the best thing about the series andeven then you'll barely remember it after the years pass. The characters are absolutely bland and dull. You don't have much of a reason to care about anyone or anything in this universe. Overall I only watched the show one day when I was really sick and didn't really care what was on the television. If nothing else it's at least memorable for being bad. Not like that is a good thing. 3/10.

Well..let's see...if not for the plot at least for the awesome art this anime deserves a shot. Story:...nothing special or outstanding but it was edible ....not very full of cliche-es but like i said nothing special.For 12 episodes i think u can resist cause it's worth a shot.A few turn-of-events but nothing special..although i liked the end..u will understand why...i gave it a 6..for fair Art:Outstanding and first-class..that's this series strong point..although there were some scenes that were repeated cause the designers were lazy to recreate them....but it is very good and it gets a 10 Sound: pretty decent..nothing special but still pretty good..gets a 7 Character: Well...12episodes don't really help character development so i didn't really get to get close to the characters..but still it was pretty fair.My fave character was Haruki..nop..IS Haruki....and of course that is mainly because Jun Fukuyama does his voice..:X..but i kinda liked the shounen too gets a 6 for fair Enjoyment: Well..i expected a little more..but..i guess it was ok..8 for enjoyment Overall: 8...i wanted to give a 7 but i am a sucker for great art and animation with action scenes so i gave it an 8 instead...it's worth a shot..try it out.

Viper's creed is a definitely an anime that needs more attention and I am surprised that it is so unpopular after watching it myself. Though not a master in any main areas you would rate an anime I feel it does not have any huge weak points. Story: 7/10 The story is based 8 years after a major war that has left with most of the earth submerged under water. The main characters are a group of former mercenaries who are part of the Viper Unit of a private army. Their job consist of taking out threats from rebels and protect the city with the use oftheir mechs. Viper's creed is broken up into 2 halves. The first focusing on more of an introduction of the plot where each main character gets their share of screen time so we can truly understand and relate to our mercenaries. The second half is where things really kick in story wise as we go through an action packed and sometimes emotional joyride. Art: 7/10 Animation looks solid enough. Action scenes are well done, loaded with bullets and rockets and explosions all over the place. I did notice that their wasn't much going on in terms of the background and there are a few re used animation frames here and there but nothing to really complain about. Sound: 6/10 Opening song is nothing to really pay attention too. The ending song I felt did not fit this type of anime at all but near the ending with what unfolds as the series goes on I felt it was actually a good match. Music used throughout the anime is good enough and usually fits with the scenes going on. Characters: 7/10 One thing I actually really like is how the characters were handled in this series. Each one of the main characters of the Viper Unit get an episode dedicated to themselves in the first half. Here we get some back story on them and learn to see exactly why they act in certain ways. On the outside you would just think these guys are just money hungry mercenaries fighting for riches but they all have some form of back story that makes you understand who they really are. What I've noticed is that by the end of the series I really didn't have a favorite character or one I really disliked. I would think that is because of how each character was handled and used by the studio. It was done in a way that no one truly out shined the other, they all got their moment in the spotlight. Enjoyment: 8/10 Definitely enjoyed this show. If you are a fan of the mecha and military settings I definitely recommend you give it try if you are looking for something to watch. Overall: 7/10 Good, solid series overall. As mentioned earlier there is no area in Viper Creed that truly stands out compared to other anime you may watch but it also doesn't have any extreme weak points being exposed. With only 12 episodes you can run though it on a Sunday afternoon and experience this action packed ride.
