Brilliant. The Chinese anime industry has been knocking it out of the park lately. It's an anime about modern day people who've been isekai'd into a story set in the ancient China. One is now an Emperor of Xia, and the other is his concubine. Now these two, and a couple of others, have to navigate in a hostile world of political intrigue, assassins behind every corner and figuring out what the other person thinks of them. The romance is beautiful. It's a mix of childish innocence and Victorian novel style. The looks they give each other are to die for. The story itself isvery expansive. Something's always happening on the screen and behind the scenes. The pacing of it all is superb. Music is what turns this from an 8, to a 10. Whoever was in charge of it is a master of invoking emotions out of the audience. It doesn't matter if it's ancient Chinese string pieces, or a simple piano piece or even rock. It just fits so well. Together with the sublime voice acting. Again, superb. Art is probably the weakest part but it's still a lot better than most. It uses 3D assets, but they look great. The facial animations alone surprised me so much. Then you have the fight scenes and oh boy. I usually hate action scenes involving 3D art in animes, as they are almost always very stiff, but here it's so fluid and the fights are really fun to watch. The only bad thing I can think of is that they reuse a few of the character assets for minor roles. Every freaking maid has the same 3D model. It confused me so much, as they take part in some of the ploys. It's all around almost perfect. I stretched watching this out for so long because I didn't want it to end how much it captured me. I love the characters. I love the way the makers of this must have had so much fun with it. I love that it ended on a cliff hanger and I can look forward to more. I'll remember this one for years to come. 10/10

Really liked this! Usually it's only one person that gets transmigrated, but here there are more people, which makes it more interesting. I fint it unique, and different than the typical transmigration stories I've seen/read, which had me hooked. Literally finished it in one night!! Also, the relationships between the mains are very cuteis very funny. The story has so many twists, which is super interesting and makes you want to watch more and more. I need season 2!

I really love this show. It’s very charming. The female lead is very cute- sensible and down to earth, but also loves to put on a show. The male lead is darker, but interesting. Their dynamic is really cute. There are also other loveable side characters, including at least two strong female characters. One of the best things about this show is its humor. The jokes are really funny and I laughed a lot. At the same time, while there’s a lot of light-hearted fun, there’s also a lot of actual heart, with real emotions and connections.A great chord-based BGM brings it all to life- it made me think of a warm, firelit room every time it came on. I’ve seen a lot of isekai by now, and in terms of handling the transmigration itself, this is one of the better ones. It doesn’t gloss over the transmigration and addresses directly the emotional trauma the characters face. But while this is done well, I think the real strong points of the show are the good humor and lovable characters. I loved this show so much and couldn’t wait for Season 2, so I found the book online and binge read it. I have to say, while the book is also funny (and also gives helpful explanatory information), I found the remaining material to be a bit less charming than what I saw in Season 1. I don’t know if it’s necessarily the story getting worse. It might be the donghua that brings everything to life, making the characters and humor really pop and leaving me with a warm and fuzzy impression. The art is good, the voice acting is great (I love the female lead’s VA), and that one background song is so warm. I’m hopeful the animated Season 2 will bring out the best of what I liked in Season 1. By the way: the first time I watched this show, I had really bad subs and missed an important point. Here’s some explanation to alleviate anyone’s confusion. The protagonist transmigrates into a story that is about a transmigrator, so there are actually two nested layers. Xie Yong’er is a transmigrator with knowledge of one trashy novel, but herself is a character in the trashy novel that our real heroine (Yu Wanyin) has entered. Therefore. Xie Yong’er is trying to change the events that occur in the novel she read, while Yu Wanyin knows what she does to change those and how it turns out, so she’s trying to change it on top of that.

What's with the low rating? This one was actually so good. Sure the animation is not easy to get used to but apart from that the storyline is pretty solid and unique. It might seem shallow at the beginning but don't judge it until you get to the last episode, there are plot twists which makes it better. There's also going to be a C-drama adaptation for this one so if you really don't like the animation you can wait for that, but I would definitely recommend the story– doesn't matter in which form. Looking forward for the 2nd Season!
