I Saved Myself with a Potion!: Life in Another World
ポーション、わが身を助ける
Kaede Yakumo, an ordinary 17-year-old high school girl, unexpectedly wakes up in another world with only her backpack alongside her. After aimlessly wandering around trying to understand her whereabouts, Kaede gives up and decides to look for anything useful in her belongings, which leads her to discover an unfamiliar book. Inside, the book lists recipes for producing potions using a simple command word, "create," and a note telling her to think of this new experience as a game. With a clear path laid out in front of her, Kaede vows to use the potions she crafts for her survival—and hopefully find the person who unfairly transported her to this world in order to return home. For the people calling this a slide show, i'll say there is more movement in one episode of this anime than in all One Punch Man S3. This is calm, cozy, and refreshingly simple. It follows a girl living a slow isekai life selling potions, with a chill atmosphere and gentle storytelling. The plot isn’t unique and the characters are straightforward, but that simplicity works in its favor, making it relaxing and easy to enjoy. It's also a 12min episode so its an easy watch. While the animation is clearly low-budget and the episodes, the art style still fits the tone and doesn’t ruin the experience unlessvisuals are a dealbreaker. It’s a comforting, laid-back watch that doesn’t deserve the harsh ratings, especially if you’re just looking to unwind. More of these please!

Plot-wise, it is far more appealing to me compared to other isekai that have a trope of collecting a harem. It is appealing to me in a way that it takes time to develop the character throughout the episode, not rushing its plot, where Kaede still needs to get accustomed to the situation she is in. I love Kaede as a protagonist; she reminds me of Myne as a female protagonist. Both were innocent and kind-hearted. In the later part, where she is introduced to Karudeno, I find her as a complement to Kaede, which can be easily exploited in that situation. Karudeno acts asa practical measure in teaching Kaede. All in all, good characters so far; they were cohesive and did make sense in the story. Animation-wise, honestly, I don't mind the animation, given how I know how hard and time-consuming it is to animate. To give an illustration of how animation in this series is done, I am guessing it is somehow done in After Effects, where it has this look of an image being animated using the puppet tool. Well, it is a valid animation, but by the anime industry standard, it might not get considered, like how the comment above said light anime is not anime? For further takes, I appreciate its compositing; it blends the scene well with the use of proper lighting. Its 3D background can be improved more where it lacks the distinction between cities. All in all, I don't mind the animation, yet I can do better if given a bigger budget and investor. The one at Frying Pan here would be the producers. How could they settle for a small studio with that style!!! In conclusion, this anime had the potential to be a hit if it was done properly to the standards of modern animation. Story-wise I have no qualms with it, but on the animation side I only have the appreciation due to the fact I love this series, but I hope for something better. Maybe I should do it myself, reanimating this. jk that would be difficult, as I am only one person.

This is a strange show, because I'm pretty sure there is another isekai anime about a girl using potions to survive (I Shall Survive Using Potions!). I initially confused this show with the other one. Then there's the motion comic type of animation and the half the runtime of a regular anime episode. Despite that, I find this show has more charm than better funded and better animated show of this season. It is definitely better than the dumpster fire of the third season of One-Punch Man. I really like how it's an anime about a cute girl doing cute things, and her ability to producepotions needs the tome she has to trigger the ability. It's not a superpowered human learning magic or another skill, but a marooned high school girl trying to survive in a strange world. it is a surprisingly grounded show. I understand why viewers would not enjoy this show. It runs for ten minutes, and the animation is clunky. However, I see it as a show where the production staff made the most of the resources available and maximized to produce a show with strong storytelling chops and a charm that belies its simplicity. I recognized the potential mixed feelings, but the 10-minute episode runtime makes this an easy show to start with its low commitment. You can try four episodes in the time it takes to finish two anime episodes of regular length. If it's not for you, one can drop it easily. With the kerfuffle that is the third season of One-Punch Man, I find watching this show relaxing. I just watch it and think not of the limited production values but just relax for the ten minutes I watch the show weekly.

For those who don't know this is a "Light Anime" not a traditional anime style we've become accustomed to over the years. The priority is lessoning the amount animation, but still telling the story. Which is great because the goal is to sell the source material anyways and hopefully develop a franchise, something most stories won't be able to do, so might as well come up with a good way to bring series which would never get an adaptation to anime fans. Just like how light novels as a sub-genre of novels are generally held at a lesser standard writing-wise compared to traditional novels, it’sthe same with this new style of light anime. They aren't tryng to reach the standard of traditional anime, so it makes no sense to compare the two when it's trying to be its own thing. I have to clear that up because most people don't realize this is a new style of animation they're testing. With that said, out of all the light anime I've seen this one is the best so far. And based on what I've watched they are actively working to increase the quality of light animes, because some of the others... let's just say it would be an insult to call them animation, "Lockdown Zone: Level X" I'm looking at you. There's a 4 minute BL one currently airing that looks good animation-wise but I'm not watching that shit. What I liked about this anime is the consistency of the art and animation throughout. The anime genuinely looked good and cohesive from start to finish, to the point where the "lack of animation" didn't bother me. Watching this anime warmed my soul, something OPM S3 could never do. All in all, it's a good watch if you have an open mind, just temper your expectation storywise... it's just above average, which is a complement in the Isekai genre. I have my issue with it being a short (13 minutes) but I won't delve deeper because I don't think they plan to make 23 minute episodes the standard since they are doing something new with this style. It's basically a 6 episode traditional anime. Oh, and the last episode ended abruptly though... Hoping to get a season 2.

Super Important thing - it is Light Anime not Anime, and with this in mind it is very good, relaxing and ~cozy series and we lack indication, separation and term recognition of Light Anime on the MAL - as Light series 8.5~9/10 as fully-flagged series 3~4/10. I give it a try and somehow it was able to catch me and.. HELL, I was really enjoying this. And then low score on MAL hit me, at first (or lower then I was expecting) but objectively indeed, the quality here is cho cho poor. The episodes are short and the animation is almost non existing (like in certainabomination with bald superhero)... although thinking on it and making small research - it it's not quality as the very low budget, and within that budget the execution is sufficient, fitting the story even. And still with great voice acting. So, personally, I was watching this as... ~kind of.. "student project?" (that was my secret to enjoy it from beginning); but through some simple research we get to the idea of Light Anime it's beginning at 2022 and important claim from Dai Nippon Printing that production of such series is about 10% of traditional anime. With this information puzzles are connected. And as Light Anime the source material was very well chosen. I think it allow smaller and more toned series to be delivered without wasting resources, it is like having indie-game entering Anime Industry. (And ofc completely other problem is when big brand like certain bald hero is animated like that, there’s no prisoners, only fire).
