Her laid-back attitude, casual speech-pattern and overly-friendly nature cause Ripple much annoyance. Though Ripple was originally to be mentored by Calamity Mary, Top Speed decided, as Mary's former student, to mentor Ripple instead so that she wouldn't suffer the same mistreatment from Mary. Her magical girl outfit consists of a witch's hat, a gauntlet, a lucky charm around her neck and a cape with the phrase "No Gratuitous Opinions" written on the back. Her magic allows her to fly at high speeds on her broomstick Rapid Swallow. In the novel, Top Speed has blonde hair and a striped cape. In the anime, her hair is instead orange and her cape is plain. As a human, Tsubame Murota is a 19-year-old pregnant housewife and former-member of the Empress biker gang. Tsubame cares deeply for her husband Shouichi, despite the two's constant arguing in their youth, and considers him cute. Although Tsubame desires to cling to her youth, she has many domestic fantasies about her husband. After defeating Calamity Mary, Swim Swim slashes Top Speed with her polearm when her back is turned, killing Tsubame and her unborn child.
