As an owl who takes his teaching very seriously, he tends to be stern, and doesn't hesitate to strictly punish any students for misbehaviors. This includes tardies (punished by a peck in the manga, punished by a cheek pull in the anime). Hohho-sensei can be intimidating as well, and doesn't smile often. He's fond of knowledge about the forest, tea, and books, though. He also ends each of his sentences with "hoot."
