Kuroda "Connally"

In his first appearance, his fellow Black Belts had lost faith in Maylene because of her loss to Paul, resulting in her developing uncertainty about being a Gym Leader. However, Connally still believed in her. Connally refereed Maylene and Dawn's unofficial Gym battle, and later, Maylene and Ash's Gym battle. During the matches, his knowledge and respect of the Gym's rules helped to bolster Maylene's confidence as a Gym Leader. He was touched, to the point of crying, after Maylene regained her self-confidence as a Gym Leader.
