At first he had a crush on Nagisa and one day he asked her if she want to hang out with him however she runs away because she is embarrassed. Later on he asks her if she likes chestnuts as she answer yes he asks her to go chestnut picking with him. While they where picking chestnuts they got attacked by a Zakena and he got saved by Cure Black and falls in love with her instead, not knowing that was Nagisa to.
