Despite his short stature, he possesses incredible dribbling skills and speed that allows him to pass defenders. He originally tried out for the SC but a fancy heel pass disqualified him from the strict entrance test. Then he decided to join the FC. Matoba has said that his role model is Onimaru Haruki from Yoin Academy.
