Ippatsu Hicchuu!! Devander

I have no idea how this OVA came to my attention, but I am glad it did. I came in expecting nothing, and what I got was a wonderful world of plotholes and nonsense. STORY: 1/10 Beats whatever potential it had with a bloody wooden spoon. Basically a cliche evil Planet X needs 'energy' to keep existing and the best/most convenient/most plot driving target is.... EARTH! The Earth is invaded and blah blah blah, several contrived plot devices later, the 'only' person that can do anything about it is our male lead. Several red flags pop up about halfway through when theweapon the main character uses depends entirely on luck, which makes absolutely no logical sense. It would be like a soldier randomly mixing in blanks into his magazine, except they are ALL BLANKS EXCEPT ONE. I also think some ancient prophecy was involved. The interesting part is, this story could have been an 8/10 if it was fleshed out more. Instead of evil planet is evil, the story could have focused on the naughty bloke's intense moral decision of weather or not to doom another planet to save his own. It could have then shifted focus to a young private in the JSDF with a stupid laugh who is the only survivor in his squad after the aliens attack. The plot could have gone somewhere if the OVA took some Ritalin. ART: 5/10 Comes into work on time, shuts up, does it's job, clocks out. I didn't really notice anything too bad about the animation, it usually looked smooth. to me, animation quality is like a maid, you only notice her if she looks like a model or doesn't do her job properly. SOUND:6/10 I can say with complete honesty, I only noticed the opening. I actually liked the opening. For some reason, it just pushed all the right buttons for me. the OST however did not. I am not even certain if there was one. I am fairly sure there WAS, because I think I would have detected dead musical silence. CHARACTER: 1/10 Make my skin crawl in various, unfortunate ways. There are only 5 characters that directly appear on screen in this epic battle for earth's survival: The LEAD: I forgot his name, lets call him Devan. Devin suffers from a debilitating condition, called being entirely useless. also for a G-rating, he displays an alarming amount of nudity. The GIRL: Lets call her Lucy, because I forgot her name as well. Lucy is Devan's sister and only services the plot to bail out Devan near the end, begging the question, why isn't Lucy the hero? Oh wait, it is because she is a girl, so naturally she can't do anything cool like save the world. you need a penis for that. The ROBOT: ANNOYING. just...just annoying. The BADDIE: about as 3-dimentional as a pancake... runover by a steamroller... 20 times. ROBONY: The only character whose name I actually remembered, because it mildly disturbed me. I understand that the name is a portmanteau of 'Robot' and 'Pony' but I misheard it as BONER at first and died a little inside. ENJOYMENT: 10/10 A rollercoaster ride of plotholes and wat throughout. This OVA never takes itself seriously, never makes sense, and never cares about any sort of logic or reason outside of it's own. I enjoyed it immensely, but I have no idea why. The humor was definitely missing the mark, but I found myself laughing anyway. one of my hobbies is ripping apart plotholes to reach the chewy center, and this fed my obsession nicely. I don't want to give anything away though. OVERALL: 3/10 I think this is where somebody's drug money went.
