Whilst this show isn't particularly awful, it would be difficult to recommend. It starts off as an episodic comedy that isn't really funny enough to recommend on its own merits and then gathers something that resembles a plot at aroundthe halfway point. Although the writing is inoffensive and has a degree of competence, it's not objectively interesting enough to qualify as a good drama and it maintains a ridiculous and irreverent tone that makes any plot points impossible to take seriously. There's also quite a lot of reference humour. The characters are all morons, but the show never pretends otherwise, and they're sometimes quite cute. Itsometimes gets so ridiculous that I couldn't help but laugh. It looks like a standard mid-budget show from the 90s (because it is). Other than a couple of nice backgrounds there isn't anything special about the animation or the designs. However it also never turns into a slideshow and it's too old to be threatened by terrible CGI. Overall it's visually consistent. I have no complaints about the voice acting, it's all very good. The most unique aspect of this show would be the musical numbers. Whilst it is an idol show with the songs to go with it, there's also a few instances where the non-idol characters sing about their feelings in a non-diegetic manner. This is more of an interesting sidenote rather than a reason to watch the programme, but I can't think of any other anime that does this.
