Kyoufu no Bio Ningen Saishuu Kyoushi

Imagine that Onizuka had an older brother who was part genetically modified warrior-part asshole, and that when he suplexed his female students, they suplexed him back. And there's magic. And henshin hero fights. And awesome. And stuff. Honestly, I don't remember too many details about this show, but I remember that I laughed quite a few times, and wished it had a proper sequel. I hope that counts for something. Bio Ningen delivers everything you expect form a good 80s'-era OVA: good animation, fight scenes, schoolgirl fanservice, an ignorable plot (this is always for the best) weird characters, and poofy hair. However, it doesn't have any stupidly-detailed robots,but that doesn't matter in the long run. Bio Ningen doesn't play any of it straight-it's a broad satire of the media in the day, from henshin shows to anime, manga, and even western movies. ...And that's about it. Worth a watch.

Ok, so if there is one tip I'd suggest before you watch this and you are looking for a dubbed version.. Find the UK dub. It's far, far superior in terms of comedic content than the US dub and I think captures the spirit of what this silly but fun OVA is all about. There's no real point in trying to give a serious review for this film, the plot is basic and makes just about as much sense as it needs to. The characters are fleshed out to about the minimum they need to be apart from Ganpachi and Hinako. The art is obviously dated butnot so terrible as to be unwatchable decades later. This is a fun way to lose 50 or so minutes, it's no classic but it's full of fun and doesn't ever take itself seriously but doesn't fall into the usual tropes of a comedy anime with lots of cuts to cute characters explaining things.

During the 1980s (and 90s), there wasn't really any quality control when it came to anime that was brought over to the U.S. So, for every really good OVA/anime that was brought over to the states (i.e., FOTNS, Megazone 23, Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket), there was at least one anime that was pure ultraviolent schlock (i.e., Cybernetics Guardian, MD Geist, Violence Jack). However, Ultimate Teacher stands out among all the OVAs that were brought over to the states - mainly because instead of being another ultraviolent schlock title, it's a comedy OVA in the same vein as Excel Saga. Story: 6/10 The storyis...really confusing. It starts off with a test subject escaping from an underground lab that holds government experiments. However, instead of terrorizing the neighborhood like in a stereotypical horror anime with this premise, the test subject, a man named Ganpachi who had his DNA spliced with that of a cockroach, decides to become a teacher - but not just any teacher; THE Ultimate Teacher. He arrives at a run down school that has been overrun by a school gang, and the leader of the gang is a girl named Hinako (no relation to the girl from those OVAs) he met while on his way to the school. He tasks himself to restoring order at the school - in any way possible, and that means defeating Hinako - whose strength comes from the type of panties she wears (despite what this might imply, there actually isn't a lot of fanservice in this show - at least when you compare it to, oh say, Gunbuster). And eventually, one of the people who is part of the lab that Ganpachi escaped from tracks Ganpachi down - and then the plot becomes too complex for me to explain. Art: 3/10 The art here has not aged well, but even if I was reviewing this at the time it came out, I wouldn't give it a very high score, mainly because the animation isn't very good even for the time it came out. There aren't any animation errors per say, but the art style hasn't aged well. Sound: 7/10 Nothing really drags it down. The dub isn't terrible (at least the U.S. dub, anyway - there's a U.K dub, but I can't comment on that one, since I haven't seen it), but it's not a stand out dub, either. Character: 7/10 Ganpachi is a character that you really have to see in order to understand him. It's pretty much impossible to describe his personality - all I'll say is that it is kind of what you would expect if a human had a cockroach's personality. As for Hinako, she's pretty much a tomboy, except she gets her strength from her Lucky Kitty underwear - in fact, taking it away from her (or revealing it) is pretty much her kryptonite. Enjoyment: 9/10 It's just so hard to describe. It's easier if you just watch it to understand it. Overall: 8/10 It's pretty hard to track down a copy (I believe it's currently unlicensed), but you can find it on Youtube (both the U.S. and U.K. dubs) if you want to watch it. Pure comedy and a smooth flow from start to end. I felt like this was a well made ova movie. The art was really good for 80's standards, loved the music,fighting scenes, and characters. The story is kind of interesting and kept me on the edge of my chair. It's really corny though, so if you are a really serious type of person then maybe this isn't for you. However, if you enjoy a good laugh then give this a shot. I didn't think I would laugh this hard while watching it honestly. I would give it a 10/10 score just based on how much laughterI got out of this, but I still wanted more after the movie. I wish they made this into an anime series or had a lot of movies. I want to say that this anime ova movie is pretty unique overall and worth a watch. And I'm sure you will feel for the girl in this...feel her embarrassment and want to be on her side. Even though I personally cheered for the "evil" protagonist...speaking of which, it's really interesting how they portrayed him. I rarely come across a character like that. The other reviewers mentioned GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) and I agree that this character is also like the protagonist from that, but this one is even more of a troll. Maybe if Onizuka had super powers he would troll more, but anyhow, just check it out. ^^
