Chiruran: Nibun no Ichi

I watched this series in just one sitting. I love comedy shows like this - it's short, it's cute, and it's very much enjoyable. So here's my review of "Chiruran". We are introduced to the captains of the Shinsengumi - the MCs - in the first episode. Given that each episode only lasts for two minutes, there's not much time for details. Of course, the series is much more enjoyable if you have basic knowledge about the people involved - no need to be an expert on the Bakumatsu period, though. I watched this while taking a break from "Gintama", which also features the Shinsengumi. Itwas very amusing to see characters I was more or less familiar with portrayed in a different way. I'd recommend checking out the Interest stacks labelled with Shinsengumi as well. What I really want to say is that this show is much more amusing if you are familiar with the Shinsengumi. Anyway, this series takes a look at the daily life of the Shinsengumi members - friendships, rivalries, and just a bunch of cute moments. It's not a masterpiece of an anime nor tries to be. It's just an endearing show to watch and laugh for a few minutes. The comedy is good enough for two minute skits. The animation is cute and nicely done. Nothing about "Chiruran" is overly complicated, it just keeps things simple. The character designs are nice, too. In conclusion, I would recommend watching this show if you like the short-episode format and enjoy a light-hearted comedy series. Bonus if you like the Edo period or just history in general. Definitely a good watch for one of those evenings when you don't know what to do.
