Theatre of Darkness: Yamishibai 7
闇芝居 7期
A rusted door opens to a decrepit apartment filled with darkness. Inside, the masked Storyteller waits to spin more twisted tales of horror, inviting all to listen. In one story, a woman is tormented by her past sins; in another, a man visits a chilling art exhibit, where things quickly go awry when he ignores the warnings regarding taking photographs. That is not all, though—an unsuspecting woman hears strange noises from her veranda, but when her boyfriend investigates, he receives the shock of his life; a lady receives a frantic call from her sister, who begs her to come to a phone booth, but when she arrives, she realizes that things are not as they appear; and a man looks for one of his belongings in his little sister's room, only to soon discover that a malevolent presence lives there. The Storyteller is all too eager to share these tales, which will no doubt shock and terrify his audience. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

It's always a mysterious thing to me that this franchise, Yami Shibai - last this long. 7 seasons long means 91 different ghost stories. With that amount of material, no wonder why the 7th installment of Yami Shibai fell flat on its ass. On the paper, Yami Shibai sounds great. What can be more simple than some folklore ghost stories to fill the run time of 5 minutes? Except when you actually got to see it then you realize, these aren't ghost stories. I don't know if these can even be considered stories. It feels like some jokes anyone can make up where ever they go.Omg, that's an abandoned building, there must be some kinds of ghosts there, oh here's an empty shop, some devils must be trolling around, ... Sometimes, those stories aren't a bit scary, just ridiculously bad. Though Yami Shibai might last longer, even til season 10. I'd like it to end as soon as possible.

FINALLY YAMI SHIBAI IS BACK TO ITS ROOTS ! I found out about that anime a little time ago and in a matter of days i watched all seasons, literally a yami shibai week XD, i absolute loved the idea and especially the execution, this anime is a compilation of short animated histories, so it is quite different than the majority of products we get, and that alone is good, cause it is alwats satisfying to get something fresh and creative in the middle of the season. Yami shibai 7 continues the yellow mask storyteller journey, what i loved about the anime is thateven though there is no major plot, as the premise is just the guy telling stories about urban legends and fokloric creatures, the crowd and even the story-teller changes throghout the series, and we understand better what he is or at least it gives us an ideia. I dont wanna spoil anything for you guys, cause it is a very simple anime that reaally deserves your attention, all i have to say is that after some kinda bad seasons, now we got a great one again, i loved every story they told.

I watched all seasons of Yami Shibai till now and i'm waiting for the 8th season, because i really enjoy those short horror stories. The season started with a very good episode (probably one of the best stories in this season) and it's not the kind of story with jump scares and it actually brings horror with each second being intense. What i also liked its the masked story teller (not all seasons are with him which is somehow bad), the episode starts creepy enough with this guy, but what i did not like was the opening, usually, the opening changed by each episode in past seasons, but not on this one. Japanese horror stories are amazing in my opinion and the Yami Shibai series are worth a try. And i suggest to watch the episodes at night because it makes the stories better.

I like Yamishibai horror stories, but I missed the earlier seasons when the stories were actually scarier and had surprising jump scares. I really like the voice of the storyteller, he’s getting creepier and creepier, so kudos to him. However, the voice acting and ending sequence feel like a downgrade in Season 7. I do like the intro, especially where the storyteller goes to creepier locations to tell the horror stories. But it would be better if there were an audience shown listening to him in that underground room (or whatever place it is). I hope the stories in future seasons will be better and more frightening. That said, Istill liked it the show, just pointing out that it could be improved, even with the short runtime.
