Fairy tail, or Fatry tail as the anime itself spelled the name in the first minute of the first episode, is back with yet another season after its final season ended a little less than five years ago. Important to know is that this season is not complete and seems like a part 1 that would require another 25 episodes to finish. At a glance the story of 100 year quest actually sounds exciting and the first episode definitely got me interested in the anime. Sadly the execution of the story leaves a lot to be desired and it's completely filled with nonsensical actions. Ahuge problem is that character power levels are very inconsistent. I understand that I'm not watching one-punch man but the people that beat an entire continent shouldn't just lose to some random wizards so they get kidnapped and the story progresses. You made the characters OP, now deal with the consequences instead of breaking the continuity of the series to make them lose fights they really shouldn't lose. Speaking of which, the entire story of this season goes against previously established facts since Acnologia kept track of how many dragons/dragon slayers remained during the final season. The story also feels lazy at times: the trope of an exact replica of every Fairy tail member existing but with a different personality was already thoroughly and properly explored in Edolas but its revisited again here without justification or explanation for a single episode long joke. Deus ex machina are somewhat expected in fairy tail but I feel like in the past they were at least slightly established or justified before they were used. This season had the first deus ex machina that actively bothered me since it came out of nowhere with no real justification. There is once again a lot of fanservice in the anime which is expected of fairy tail. The fanservice seemed worse though, someone being flashed off-screen isn't really fanservice and at times it was very intrusive, interrupting the flow of a battle multiple times per episode. Another annoyance was that the anime used anachronisctic elements like 'integer overflow'. The one thing that seems better in this season is the romance so if you're excited about Juvia and Gray or Gajeel and Levy then that might be a nice plus. The characters changed quite a lot and mostly for the worse. Natsu is now hesitant to eat flames (yes really), Plue suddenly has a great sense of smell that somehow never came up even once in the previous 300 episodes and guild members actively congratulate a girl who mind-controlled Fairy tail members and made them fight each other. Overall some characters feel like mild parodies of themselves. A small positive is that character's relationships do seem to progress which is a nice touch. A pretty huge problem is that characters don't have to figure things out themselves anymore. The anime frequently throws in a needless deus ex machina for a ghost or something to just explain the enemy's power instead of the characters figuring it out for themselves. So instead of a struggle to figure out how something works they just pause the game and look it up on the internet which makes the fights way less fun to watch. Alongside this, characters massively overexplain their actions and magic and it's just stupid to explain your strengths and weaknesses to your enemy. I do understand that some explanation is necessary but the anime currently treats the viewers as if their shoe size is larger than their IQ. Another problem that the anime has it that it can't help but bring back old characters that are dead or otherwise unavailable. People are dead when they die, you can't just bring them back every few episodes to make the anime 'more interesting' or whatever. The new characters that do get introduced are alright overall but the main villains so fair haven't been as compelling as the previous ones. The music was worse than in the previous seasons. The timing was off and the proper theme only appeared like twice while a way less interesting song was used during most battles. The animation is different. Characters look different, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Overall I feel like the animation is slightly lower quality since there's less consistency in the animation. On one hand I think the animation in previous seasons suited the anime more but that might be because I was used to that, on the other hand this animation has its own charm and sometimes looked cute. I don't feel like the fights looked as good as in the previous seasons. Overall this season differs in many aspects of the original series: The story can't exist, characters have different personalities/characteristics and even the music and animation are different. In return for this deviation you get an anime with a cool premise but with pretty poor and illogical storytelling that wasn't very fun to watch. I recommend letting the final season remain the final season and to not let the changed characters or story ruin the original series for you. If you do end up watching it, maybe try treating it as a different universe with very similar characters so the dissonance doesn't detract from the story.

Story and Pacing: While the nostalgia is strong, Fairy Tail was definitely more intellectually engaging when I was younger. The pacing in 100 Years Quest can be uneven, with many slideshow-esque scenes disrupting the flow. The story feels convoluted and disjointed, with little build-up to major moments, making it feel episodic—almost like a monster of the day setup. Additionally, the inclusion of two doppelganger guilds (Fairy Nail and Edolas) seems redundant and Irene’s role felt quite like a deus ex machina. Humour: The blend of action and comedy is a Fairy Tail staple, but the humour sometimes undercuts the gravity of the battles. While it’s part of thecharm, it can feel out of place. That said, the comedic character interactions still shine, and the banter is the series’ strongest point. Romance: There’s more romance in 100 Years Quest than I remember from Fairy Tail. The ships—Gajevy, Gruvia, Jerza, and NaLu—have plenty of moments. While the will-they-won’t-they tension is fun, it’s clearly aimed at fans who grew up watching Fairy Tail but didn’t get their ships to fully materialise by the end of the original series. Ecchi Elements: It's tiresome to see how Lucy still bears the brunt of the ecchi humour and seeing strong, noble Erza weakened again just felt reductive. While I overlook this for the sake of nostalgia, the crude humour and perverted old men and women are definitely a turn-off. There's also a moment that resembles tentacle *ahem* material, which could be triggering for some. That said, Fairy Tail is somewhat unique in catering to both the female and male gaze (though it’s still biased towards the male), giving it broader appeal than many other shounen series. Throwbacks: Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest is a nostalgic dive for long-time fans. It’s rewarding to see familiar characters and settings, especially with the trademark Fairy Tail medieval OST playing in the background. Seeing characters I adored over a decade ago is always fun (my fictional childhood friends 💀).
The exploration of Natsu’s vision of heaven adds emotional weight, and a highlight was seeing the Edolas ships sail, where the characters hadn't undergone the 7-year time-skip. It was also nice to see Mystagon again.
Other Notes: An interesting philosophical quote stood out: "When faced with immense power that they fear, humans sometimes revere it as a god out of both fear and awe." In terms of new characters,
Suzaku was fun (his one-worded responses encapsulated entire sentences) and Mercphobia was quite endearing.

Natsu’s use of the Ankhseram Curse against the God Seeds was also a clever move.
While Fairy Tail was more about Zeref, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest is about the 100 Year Quest (as one would expect lol). Final Thoughts: Overall, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest feels like a trip down memory lane. However, the story feels less polished compared to when I first encountered the series. The comedy still holds a nostalgic place in my heart, but it’s clear this series is more for fans who grew up with it. Maybe I’ve grown up too—Fairy Tail isn’t quite the same as I remember, but it’s still fun in its own chaotic way.

The announcement of Fairy Tail's continuation was a big surprise! The essence of Fairy Tail remains the same here. It's fun and full of ecchi. I didn't expect anything less. However, this season feels more "serious" in terms of the storyline, in my opinion. The 100 Years Quest is really interesting and consistently surprising! If you want to see something similar to the previous seasons, definitely watch this! The animation is nothing remarkable, but it's not bad either. The soundtrack is the same as in previous seasons (and it's very good). The ecchi remains unchanged, with no censorship or anything like that. Overall, it was a fun season. Ienjoyed almost every moment watching it. The only negative point is the convenient plot, as seen in other seasons, but this is the essence of Fairy Tail, after all (although I would like to see this element change a bit at times).

Tbh, this was a justice to the Fairy Tail story this continuation and the Anime made it even better! J.C.Staff finally gave life to the Fairy Tail anime and I seriously almost cried when I could see such beautiful and finally dynamic fights in this Shounen story, and of course it's not perfect, but it was a million times better than season 2 and season 3! Hiro sensei did a justice by continuing to write stories, because with this the basic story improves a lot, and J.C.Staff gave justice to its Anime and with this Fairy Tail can really come back from the ashes! So it canbe said that Fairy Tail is back! !!! Just like with My Hero Academy, its last chapter saved the series from a horrible ending! A few words about why I think Fairy Tail is back: The ending was simply rushed! E.N.D was not used, Gray's demon power, Zeref, or Acnologia's fight...ooh boy I won't even comment on that, which is pointless to talk about anymore, because I feel like the white mage 5 dragons will be the ones who fix the fate of 2 of the best written characters during the 100 missions. Rushing was just one mistake for the basic story, another was when Hiro sensei created a big world, but didn't use it and 80% of the plot always took place in the same place and the 100th mission immediately took our characters to a new continent and that's what I call a great start! We finally left Ishgal! If they write it well, Acno and Zeref, the world and the story can get a better ending with the 100th mission. They immediately started fixing the main mistakes that were messed up in the Alvarez arc! Not to mention that finally not only the 2 cats 5 characters get playing time, but everyone and I liked the whole Guild fought the dragon so no one is left out of the party! It was a smart move, and I only missed Gildtars, although he was there, but that's not how I wanted to see him ^˘. Laxus didn't get as much time as in the main story, but not just him, but everyone from the guild. Gajeella vs Aldoron is also great, or the weakest members got something and these were all very well written and of course the romantic threads are progressing well Erza x Jellal, Gajel x Levi, even Juvia and Gray, how much development is happening and it's so fun to read now and of course I haven't even mentioned the 5 dragons or Hiro sensei's god level comedy! So, there's more to say about this and I can't bring up anything negative about this arc! I'm not kidding! It's one of those sequels that I think is a good decision. Welcome back Fairy Tail and Natsu ˇ^ .

As a longtime Fairy Tail fan, I went into this with mixed expectations — excited but afraid to be disappointed. And honestly… the beginning was a blast. The pacing felt smooth, and that nostalgic vibe hit perfectly. But it’s a shame that Lucy, who used to be the emotional core and one of the most developed characters, now feels more like an NPC this season. She barely gets any screen time, and most of the spotlight goes to Natsu, Gray, Erza, and Wendy. As a Natsu x Lucy shipper, I can’t lie — it’s frustrating. Every other couple (Gray–Juvia, Erza–Jellal, Gajeel–Levy) already had their moments, butthese two are still stuck in the eternal “just teammates” phase. It’s like they’re the only pair in the guild who haven’t gone official yet 😩. Still, the power-up battles and that signature Fairy Tail humor are as great as ever. But for Lucy fans like me, watching this season feels a bit bittersweet — fun, but with a constant, “Where’s Lucy?” running in the back of my head.
