Fifteen years is a long time to wait for any show to return, and by the time it does, it likely won't live up to the hype. That could not be farther from the truth for Panty and Stocking, which makes its grand return after a decade and a half of studio closures, copyright disputes, and plenty of American pop culture waiting to be riffed on. Most impressive that despite all that, it's like the show never even left in the first place, and I'd argue that this new season may even surpass the original. Perhaps I should preface that while I enjoyed the original Pantyand Stocking, I did have some issues with it. The first few episodes didn't quite grab me, and visually it could be a bit messy at times. But thankfully it did improve as it went on, rounding out its cast with more engaging stories and visuals, resulting in an explosive finale that was far more captivating than it had any right to be. What gives season two the edge for me was how it was able to keep that momentum going, resulting in an overall more consistent package. It picks up with a premiere that manages to rival that aforementioned finale, resolving a seemingly impossible cliffhanger with bombastic action and a comedic twist so outrageously raunchy yet clever that you won't believe got past any form of censorship (though maybe airing on Amazon may have let them get around that kinda stuff). Once that's out of the way, we return to the series' status quo, with our bitch angel heroes back on the streets of Daten City hunting ghosts for Heaven Coins, now with the demon sisters in tow. Looking at the season as a whole, it follows a very similar formula to the first in terms of episode placement, especially in regards to the sixth episode introducing a new pair of rivals. That's where we meet Polyester and Polyurethane, a pair of AAVE-butchering angel twinks set out to fix Heaven's reputation of debauchery and sin. They make a solid first impression, but do feel quite underutilized in later appearances, mostly due to a running joke about the pair refusing to work overtime. Fortunately, they get their due spotlight in the show's two-part finale, that once again sees the angels embracing their flaws to kick ass and save the world. The one area that I'm sure most people will agree is an improvement is in the animation. As the original was animated at the eventually-defunct Gainax, season two is produced now at Trigger, where most of the original's staff ended up after the split. In that time Imaishi and crew have worked on projects like Kill La Kill, Promare, BNA, and Cyberpunk Edgerunners, so their return to Panty and Stocking brings with it a considerable upgrade. It still retains that strong western influence, but gives its look a touch more consistency that really brings it into its own. Even when reusing the same animations from fifteen years ago, side-by-side the colors pop a lot more. The action remains as energetic as ever, even if it still keeps that dizzying claustrophobic shot composition that made the original hard to follow at times, though thankfully it's not nearly as frequent here. And of course, it does sometimes experiment with different styles in certain segments, much to great effect here. Highlights include a Frank Frazetta-inspired Conan the Barbarian sendup, and a shockingly inspired homage to the Hanna-Barbera Fantastic Four that genuinely transcends its source material. Narratively they don't do anything as ambitious as that salaryman segment from season one (those must've been the animators who went to Studio Chara), but I think the stronger focus on the main cast can only be a good thing, and returning to that setting would've only cheapened its impact in retrospect. Overall, New Panty and Stocking is the rare revival that stays true to everything that made the original special. They fit together seamlessly, continuing the momentum effortlessly after such an unprecedented hiatus. Of course, this new season also ends on a cliffhanger, so whether that momentum can be further sustained remains to be seen, but as long as we get that third season before 2040 I'd say we're in good hands.

I can't believe it has been 15 years since the original. The first season made quite an impact with its Cartoon Network influences combined with great animation, music, humor and action. And now that the second season is finally here and we are all old now I just have one question? Why? This questions stems from the fact that this season rightdown disappoints on almost all fronts outside music. The angels, Panty and Stocking, now team up with the demons from the first season, Scanty and Kneesocks. This is a very good idea as the demons are great characters but the show just sidelines them rightfrom the start and it loves to focus on Panty for no reason. The humor is also a complete miss. There wasn't a good joke among them and I only chuckled because of the new angels that act and talk just like zoomers. The show also can't let a moment or joke land without focusing directly on some other distraction. It's like they made the show not for fans of the original but for a totally new audience that has the attention span of a child on a sugar rush. This makes that the action is all over the place. This really hurts the last two episodes that also bring the new big baddy on the stage, which is overall a very disappointing character. When it all comes to a close the show ends with a cliffhanger. So I guess i'll see you guys in 15 years. Also the dub is superior to the sub, suck it weebs.

A cliffhanger that lasted 15 years, could anything be more Panty & Stocking than that? I don't know, but "New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt" is a solid choice. Narrative: (Fuck/this) It's unapologetic, bold, offensive, aggressive, you name it. Lots of crazy episodes, some completely disconnected that are quickly discontinued, others emotional, and somehow, a strange balance between them. Visuals: (Panty & Stocking/10) The unique style we're used to is back, onomatopoeias flying around, goofy cartoon reactions, monster models exploding, good use of CGI, sexy transformation animations, a touch of gore here, a touch of nudity there.Soundtrack: (Fly Away/10) They nailed it with the soundtrack again, which is a defining element of this anime. Bitches, I mean, characters: (666/666) All the original characters are still funny and charismatic, from Panty to Chuck. The addition of Scanty and Kneesocks to the main cast was refreshing, Polyester and Polyurethane brought a fun new dynamic, and Gunsmith Bitch ended up being a very good bitch, I mean, character. Worldbuilding: (Insert bad joke here) Do people even read this far? Did you really think I'd talk about worldbuilding? Bro... go on, throw Panty & Stocking onto your Plan to Watch, which already has over 300 entries, and keep lying to yourself that one day you'll watch it all. When you finally watch it—in, like, 4 years—you'll thank me. P.S.: Watching Inferno Cop and Uchuu Patrol Luluco isn't necessary, but it'll help with one episode.

If you want a testament of what a true spiritual successor is to a show, this is the right way to do it. I am a huge fan of the original series and actually found it back in early 2013 when I discovered it through a YouTuber named RebelTaxi when I was young in middle school. I think being in middle school and finding crude humor to be hilarious, it inspired me to do a lot with mixed media and art as it never took itself seriously while also blowing a load on budget to create some of the best animation scenes I have yetseen to ever be replicated. With that being said, NEW Panty an& Stocking with Garterbelt stands as a byproduct that truly took a study to understand its source material, modernize it, make it look even better, while still being in touch the CURRENT pop-culture just like the original was. I find it hilarious to the people that really look deeper when the main inspiration behind this show was 2000s adult animation brain rot like Drawn Together. If you turn your brain off and just enjoy how mindless it is, you truly get to appreciate the clever and genius writing behind something so juvenile. In a world full of corporate CEOs running huge anime studios, it is a breath of fresh air to see something that can mock that and also just be out there, try new gags and styles that otherwise would be held off to be "safe" and "casual friendly." I mean for crying out loud, we got a sick spin of what old cartoons would look like modernized in episode 10, although its not many people's favorites, which it isn't mine , you have to respect and appreciate the subversion to pay homage to what inspired the creators to get into animation in the first place. We aren't gonna see anything else like that in any other season anime. Anime nowadays is known for being over the top, dramatic, story-engaging and plot heavy, I mean, the biggest anime in the world right now is without a doubt One-Piece, which is sure hard to get into since it requires a lot of time to get dedicated. This on the other hand, feels like turning on an early morning Saturday cartoon and not needing the rest, which is uncommon by today's meta of anime that focuses on viewership from episode to episode. I mean even in Western cartoons, we lack that episodic Saturday feel that was perfected in the 90s-early 2010s, but that was also a contribution of cable television for the time. ART/ANIMATION - 10/10 The art resembles exactly what it was like 15 years ago, but upscaled and understood that we can make it look even crispier. As someone who owns the DVD boxset of the original series, I loved the art style and crispness 2010 had, but they somehow made it even better now which just shows the evolution of animation software and rendering capabilities we have today. The animation shows that they did not want to cheap out on it either, they went all in and provide dynamic fights unique angles and interesting composition for even the silliest and crudest of jokes/moments. The colors and lighting were consistent among the season and never dipped in quality other than the sake for a gag like in the Indiana Jones parody to pay homage to the old art where they needed to preserve budget. This is the shit your favorite anime wish they could pull off while keeping the style exactly the way it needs to be. I also think the thick outline 2000s cartoon style worked in the favor to show dramatic stretch frames to show how much the characters were in action, which is hard considering it isn't traditional lifework. MUSIC - 10/10 HOLY MOLY WE GOT A TREAT! I love the original soundtrack and the its companion, "THE WORST ALBUM," as they are EDM and pop-centric cuts that otherwise wouldn't be common to see from a usual anime, let alone cartoon of this nature. As someone growing up on Skrillex, Porter Robinson, Knife Party, and much more prominent EDM figures of the time period the original series came out, it is truly a blessing we got to see a soundtrack pay the perfect homage to original music, even providing remixed versions of our favorite songs and cranking the knob up 10x more. As someone who DJs, this is music that I can throw in the mix and no one would bat an eye thinking its crazy to play this soundtrack, as a lot of toned down the raunchiness for the sake of raunchiness. The original soundtrack has songs that you absolutely cannot play in any public setting while this one has a lot to feel like anyone can appreciate it. Not only is it enjoyable outside the show, it blend in seamlessly with the episodes and atmosphere they created for it. You can tell the creators loved what they were doing and gave it their all to mix audio with visuals perfectly. Something GAINAX did with their original works was always add composition that made their work feel like a music video, a moment of true correlation, for example FLCL. You cannot think of FLCL without The Pillows, and you cannot think about The Pillows without FLCL, they truly are a spectacle of creating the perfect blend, and I would say the same thing for P&SwG and NP&SwG. Names like Teddyloid return and Taku Takahashi really lead this soundtrack to be a product of Panty & Stocking, while also making Panty & Stocking a byproduct of this soundtrack. Trigger is doing an amazing job at keeping the spiritual energy of GAINAX, unlike Production IG with FLCL.... CHRACTERS - 10/10 We really got to see these characters become even more of their own entities without exploring too far either. We got to see the Daemon Sisters become truly one with the group and become their own character outside of being the demons that Panty & Stocking fight. Seeing Scanty & Kneesocks become vital to the core energy was fun, it felt like season 1 wrapped up so we can have fun adventures with every for season 2. Panty & Stocking resumed to be just as fun and themselves as ever, even exploring Panty to be more of a leader role than ever and gave her real development that we otherwise don't get to see, even if she remains a "bitch," at the end of the day. I do wish Stocking got more screen time and development, but I feel as if we got a lot of that in season 1 and she is already the fan favorite. They kept her the exact way she needed to be and everyone is content with that. Garterbelt and Brief also became more fun characters as they became even more nuanced in their role of the group, rather than just being there to be there, they feel like the ones who provide balance between to two sibling pairs and somehow reunite them to be together against being totally against each other. I am also excited Brief got to have some independent moments to become his own entity and understand his thought process, he is just a geek boy. The Twink brothers, Polyurethane and Polyester were also the perfect representation of Gen Z/Alpha core and are just funny. It was a huge deal to get new character, especially ones who are angels, and to have them just be trolls feels right. I appreciate that they also represent the morals of the said generations, like when they clock out, they stop working, which is funny because it relates to the struggles of the work force and the mentioned generation, which is a huge issue, my generation is tired of being treated like shit by corporate entities. Gunsmith Bitch was also just a silly addition to just have cracked out gear for the sake of having cracked out gear, but also leaves us curious of other dimensions outside of Heaven, Hell, & Earth. The reveal of God, and their uncle Ramie were a two party episode delight as they just continued the tradition of, well, here is lore for the sake of it LOL. It is hard not to genuinely enjoy these characters, especially since we get more Chuck & Fastener moments we all love. EPISODES AND HUMOR - 10/10 I never found myself bored of any of the episodes, maybe some will argue 10, but I rather enjoyed the nonsense of it personally. I found that all the episodes and their minisodes inside all provided fun brainless episode fun while having very clever and deep themed messages that honestly, bring a sense of union between it. One of my favorites was when Panty had a pet ghost cat, Vibrator, that lead to a very unexpected sentinel moment that reminded me of my own pets that I lost and how moving forward is hard, but is needed. Never would I have thought I would have a deeper connection to life messages than that episode about a god damn cat named vibrator, made me have tears in my eyes. The comedy was genius, as it aged itself to its current time period, toned down some unnecessary aspects of politically incorrect writing, but still kept it vulgar, repulsive and offensive. The point isn't to mock the viewer and make fun of vulnerable things for the sake of being edgy, its edgy in the sense of how far can we push a stupid idea with budget for animation and music. NP&SwG isn't funny because it swears and tells pee-pee poo-poo jokes, it's funny while swearing and having pee-pee poo-poo jokes. A thing that annoyed my a lot this season was the comparison of this to Hazbin Hotel. Harbin Hotel tries to be funny by swearing and being edgy, P&SwG is funny for other reasons while swearing and being edgy. Some of my favorite jokes weren't from the edge factory, rather just dumb face expressions, funny parodying and dialogue shared between characters. Sure imma laugh when some raunchy shit comes up, but to me the Fantastic Four parody shows a level of humor that is meta while being silly. It makes fun of the fanbase, it makes fun of millennials, get-z, get alpha, and boomers, while never trying to be relatable to a generation like the fanbase does for Hazbin Hotel. I am not hating on Vivziepop, as her Kesha We Are Young video inspired me a lot as an artist as a kid, but these two fanbases and content are entirely different. I wouldn't call family guy and South Park the same kind of show, they are both adult humor shows that swear, but deliver their comedy and ideas differently. AFTER MY YAPPING, I JUST WANT TO SAY ITS GLAD TO BE BACK. I NEVER MET ANYONE WHO HATES THIS SHOW, IF YOU DO, YOU EITHER ARE MISSING THE POINT. you can say the show is not for you, but to call it hot garbage is crazy. it is clear I have a huge bias, but there is truly no other anime that can even compare to this. It truly is its own spectacle and I recommend everyone trying it out for the sake of good animation, good music, and good brain rot. We live in a post-shift anime world where even the normiest of normies watch anime now, and because of that expect more shonen and slice of life rom-coms (which isn't a bad thing), you aren't gonna see anything like this or similar to it in a long time so appreciate it now. Hopefully we get a season 3, as we know they are continuing the troll of, "to be continued in next season," title card appeared again at the end. THANK YOU TRIGGER FOR BEING GAINAX.

It took us 15 years but we finally were given a sequel to Panty and stocking and honestly, I have some mixed thoughts on this because I don't necessarily think that this was bad, All the characters evolved in a natural way with my only complaint really is that I feel like Brief was kind of shafted this season opposed to the original series, I like the added dynamic demon sisters gave and they were definitely the highlights of this for me I do feel that the original was definitely better, Especially because if it's iconic dub which they changed the dubs voice actors thisseason and they new VAs definitely take some getting used to but after the first few episodes which are hit or miss I definitely feel that the rest of the season they did really good work Minor spoiler warning but they ended the season on a cliffhanger again, But that's not a real shock there I guess, Hopefully that make a third season because it definitely feels like this season was just lacking something that the original had humor wise My rating for this is a solid 7/10, Because like I said it's not bad and some parts are really good even but it definitely doesn't out shine the original
