A Turtle's Shell Is a Human's Ribs
カメの甲羅はあばら骨
Kameda Kamerou is a normal second-year high school student who leads a dull school life. His true feelings are hidden behind his ribs. One day, the news that his best friend, Kaerugawa Erutaka, helped others spread quickly and caught the attention of a high-ranking group, including the school's superstar, Raionji Raiou, who is aiming to become the student council president. Kaerugawa suddenly joins them, and Kameda is tormented by jealousy and an inferiority complex. How will their friendship go? And on the day of the student council election, a session of "bone-to-bone collision" begins?! When the bones change, the world changes. This is a story of conflict and growth between certain high school students and ribs. (Source: Official website, edited)

So I just watched Pompo-san, and going through the cast, I found that the main character of that film only had another role, that being Kameru Kameda, main character of Kame-abara, which just happened to have the most cursed art I’ve ever seen, which was enough reason to watch the trailer immediately and jump straight into the movie, even if I couldn’t find any subs. I guess I’m enough of an otaku to kinda make sense of most of the dialogue in this 67 minutes madness, Yet, I don’t think you need to understand a single word of japanese to dive in. You don’t watch it tounderstand the verbal exchanges or the subtle nuances of the writing, but to experience something out of the norm in every possible way. There is no need to review this film, unless you are trying to put it in the spotlight for a brief second, which would certainly be apreciated, given the fact that after almost a year from it’s release, not even a hundred users in MAL have marked it as watched. (i’m #82, btw) Who cares about anything else? Cast? Studio? Rating? Production quality? background info like source, director, stats? If you are reading this and haven’t watched Kame-abara, you should just watch it. You gazed deeply enough into the abyss, so there is no excuse to turn around at this point. As for the rating, I don’t know. Giving a rating is a requirement here, so I have to do it, but keep in mind, the only determining factor for the average score on this movie will be "who is watching it?" not "is it good or not?". You could say it is a 1/10 for being a waste of time with an unpleasant aesthetic as a cheap hook. You could say it is a 10/10 for being a deliberately purposeless story made to force you to ponder on the absurd of the human experience through the audiovisual expertise that goes into animation. Anything in between makes sense as well. I’ll give it a 7.6 (not enough to be rounded as an eight) It was all I was expecting and a bit more, but I’m sure there are still stronger "so bad its good" anime out there (Maybe… Garzey's Wing, Skelter Heaven, Ghost stories dub, Egumi Legacy, Cromartie HS…) Maybe there is a solid 10/10 out there, but I haven’t found it yet.
