A scourge has descended upon vampire society in the form of serial murders. The killings appear unrelated at first glance, but every crime scene has one thing in common: a card left behind, bearing the words "True of Vamp"—the name given to the legendary progenitor of all vampires. The Vlad Agency, a secret intelligence operation, summons the renowned aristocrat Dali Delico to lead the task force investigating the murders. However, Dali refuses, choosing to focus on raising his children. His old colleagues—Gerhard Fra, Henrique Lorca, and Dino Classico—plead with him to balance his duty to the agency with child-rearing. He agrees on one condition: the other three men must also care for their children during the investigation. Dali's estate therefore becomes a nursery and the base of operations for the four noble vampires. Meanwhile, a criminal organization Dali knows all too well lurks in the shadows with evil intentions that threaten to cause the collapse of the entire vampire society. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

+ Both the artstyle and backgrounds are pretty unique. When combined with the colours used, the final result is a great fit for the atmosphere and setting of this series. + The frequent fights are thoroughly animated and a joy to observe. + The premise is incredibly creative, while the setting itself is pretty rare for anime. + The cast is notably large and handled really well. All of the relevant characters get a satisfying characterisation and many of them undergo development that feels justified and organic. Given the length of the series and the size of the cast, it is executed very exemplarily. + Dali Delico - theprotagonist - is a really witty, nonchalant and fun character to follow. + The children are written in a realistic manner and feel different from each other (apart from the twins being similar). + The soundtrack is a banger.

I’m not sure if it’s the story itself or just this anime adaptation, but this one is a flop. There are two different plot lines/components to Delico’s Nursery: the aristocratic/government/conspiracy plot and the child rearing plot. And they do not do a good job of balancing or connecting the two. They very much feel like two separate plot lines and as someone who loves childcare anime and started this specifically because of that, the children really do not add anything to the plot other than to be, quite frankly, annoying. The plot itself has its own issues, the main one being the 11 episode buildup to probably one of the most anticlimactic plot resolutions I’ve ever seen. The ending is also super unsatisfactory and you’re left with a lot of unanswered questions. I will say that the characters designs are great. The soundtrack is as well, but a lot of the time it’s so loud you can’t even hear the dialogue. Overall, there are much better bureaucratic, vampire, and childcare anime out there, and while I commend this anime for trying to combine all three, it probably would have been better if they didn’t.

The art style, character designs, and soundtrack of the show are what makes this show a treat. If you're into artistic elements like these, this is what makes me recommend Delico's Nursery. - There is a balance between child rearing and dark fantasy, I found that these elements were balanced well compared to other works that try something similar. While some shows introduce children as a gimmick and then entirely focus on the " action " part, Delico's Nursery (DN) included the children in pretty much every episode and I believe they played pretty crucial roles, even if they are simply children. - The art style islovely! There's so much texture and and I'm in love with how the characters were designed. I've seen shows were the first episode will start with a striking art style to draw an audience in but the quality drops so badly during the later episodes. DN didn't have any of that, they were consistent with using the style they chose and I loved it. - Quite a decent amount of fight scenes? Sometimes I'll watch shows that are meant to have fight scenes, and then there's this one(1) wonky CG animated scene in it. My expectations are really low at this point. They may not be god tier fight scenes but they were pretty good imo - The original soundtrack... I need it on Spotify ASAP!! The tracks with vocals in them fit the scenes they were used in so well, it made me feel the right amount of emotions at the right time. Great choice to go with the music director they did! - I think the only gripe I'd have with DN is that there is so much potential world building but they only had time for 13 episodes! I've looked it up and I'm aware the source material is a stage play, and there is a manga, and this anime, that was created based off the original stage play universe. The anime glossed over some things, but personally, I don't think it was too hard to ignore the things glossed over? You just kinda roll with it and enjoy the show for its pretty art and somewhat compelling story. Who knows, maybe the director of the anime didn't think it was worth wasting time to include too many world building bits because there's already an off camera universe readily available for people to experience if they Really wanted to (with the stage plays). Like another reviewer mentioned, I don't get what's with all the bad reviews of DN. There is no singular show that will suit everyone out there. Reading through other reviews, you can IMMEDIATELY tell who didn't watch the show before leaving a lengthy review that said nothing... (the reviewer who called Angelico a DAUGHTER, tell me you didn't watch the show without telling me you didn't watch the show smh)

The art, the worldbuilding and the realistic character personalities are the best qualities of this anime. the child-rearing aspect felt like the story that wanted to be told and i kind of wish it just stuck to it because the antagonist group story just feels like it was thrown in haphazardly. I find the antagonists to be underdeveloped in comparison to the main characters and even the children, their "evil plot" is so superficial and feels like barely any thought was put into their plan. Main villain had one plan and one theoretical backup plan which he reveals a few episodes before even being close totaking action. Both attempts failed and that was that... like dude I sat through 9 episode of this group of vampire detectives struggling to stop them all to find out they were never a threat, c'mon. also the fact that episodes 12 and 13 are pretty much the same episode with slightly different editing was a pretty irritating. why end on a recap?

“Delico's Nursery” is what happens when ambition overshadows the writer's skill. I am a bit confused about what kind of show this is supposed to be. In theory it wants to combine mystery and childcare. I’m all for it, those are two of three of my favorite genres. The problem is that both plot lines are pretty bad. The childcare plot isn’t a total travesty, at least compared to the mystery one. The mystery plot (that later becomes a generic action one) is absolute garbage. There isn’t even a proper story despite setting up at least 3. Before we start I would like to explain something. Iwill be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page… I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them: “What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.” “STORY is about how the things that happen affect someone in pursuit of a difficult goal, and how that person changes internally as a result”. I’m gonna need someone to explain to me why the hell this show has 13 episodes. Everything wraps up in 12, even if in a rather anticlimactic and boring way. The 13th episode doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. It doesn’t answer any questions that are still lingering, but it does, for some reason, repeats things we already knew. It also sets up a season 2 that will probably never come, and I can’t say that’s a bad thing, judging by the writing in this one. I’ll start with the thing that annoyed me the most. World building. It’s an absolute travesty. For starters, we get that the main cast are vampires called vamps in this universe. Ok. There is a whole race of vampires. Ok. They have their own society, rules and politics. Ok. Nothing wrong so far. But… There is an entity called “True of Vamp” “Trump” for short (Yes, I did laugh as well when I heard that). It’s said to be the god of the whole race and every member of the vamp race has a mental connection to him. But we never really get info about what are other differences between vamps and Trump. Apart from the fact that Trump is called immortal (and the things I mentioned earlier) we don’t get the differences. Does that mean that vamps grow old and die of old age? We know they can be killed but that brings nothing new to the mythos about vampires. Vamps go through something called “cocoon phase” when they are adolescence but we don’t really get an explanation of what exactly it is, how long it lasts and what happens during that time. Trump has a set of unique powers but a vamp during the cocoon faze also gets them. So why do they lose them after? What’s the evolutionary point of gaining power when they seem to be most emotionally unstable (If we assume that the teenage years of a vamp are similar to that of a human), only to lose them after? It seems like a cheap excuse to give the antagonist some sort of age over the main cast. Why is Trump such a pathetic excuse for a creature? The mofo is immortal and it seems he’s just killing time in the most basic, boring way possible. You’re telling me that he can’t find a hobby once every couple of decades? He doesn’t seem to be a psychopath, sociopath or anything fun like that, even if he does seem to have a murder boner every few years, so why not make him more active? He has all the time in the world, he doesn’t want to make vamps his slaves but doesn’t really seem to care all that much about them. I get the free will shtick but he could at least be more interested in their evolution. If not actively than from an observer / scientist sort of way. As it stands he’s boring, rather pathetic and seems to just feel sorry about himself. If it’s a way of saying that eternal life is a curse… then the writer went about it in the most pathetic way possible — telling and not showing. Even the “telling” part is rather moronic because it’s just one sentence said almost like an after thought. The mystery plot is equally bad. I get that it had to be dumb down a little because of its amalgamation with the childcare plot but this is just ridiculous. Delico (the MC) and his companions are positioned as competent in their job and are tasked with solving the murder case. Ok. But the truth of the matter is that they do jack shit for most of the show. Every breakthrough that happens is not because of them but because of someone or something else. They don’t even find the antagonists on their own, the antagonists attack them. We have 4 members of the main cast and apart from child caring they do nothing. We get 4 passive characters that rarely talk about the case in terms of planning their next move. They just wait. At first I was really annoyed because I thought that their job is to save people, but the show proved me wrong a few minutes later by stating that their job isn’t to save individuals but the vamps as a race. We even get a pseudo-speech about it and everyone agrees. The fuck? So why do they risk their goal to save their kids? What? It’s ok if people they don’t know die, but when it’s personal their priorities suddenly shift? I get it, it’s an anime. Anime and hypocrisy of the MCs is a standard practice but it’s still stupid. If this hypocrisy was in any way, shape or form addressed, maybe, I wouldn’t be as pissed about it but as it stands it just positions the main cast as assholes and not the good kind. For effs sake, give me at least some sort of conversation about them pretending to care about the victims. That would at least soften the blow. The nail to the coffin is that the antagonists are much more interesting as characters and that’s despite the fact that they don’t seem to have a proper plan and sometimes I got a feeling they are winging the whole thing. Their interactions are complex, they get into fights with each other and still mostly end up on the same side of the conflict with the main cast. I liked that. It makes them not as flat and bland as Delico’s coterie. It almost makes me wish they were the main characters of the show, especially that most of them don’t seem to be truly evil. Just people with a very specific goal that they use to justify their actions. That is some seriously good story and plot point. The childcaring plot is actually better, but still pretty flat. I will give credit, where credit is due, 2 of the 4 members of the main cast do evolve in this regard. Granted only one in any meaningful way but I’ll take what I can get at this point. Apart from Henrique, everyone learns something about their kids and changes their approach to raising them. I actually appreciate that. Gerhard is the best example of evolution in this plot. He starts as strict, distant and almost cold towards not only his own son but children in general, but quickly the cracks appear. Despite being the first to start changing he seems not to want to admit it. Like a damn tsundere that he is. But at the end of the show every member of the main cast is closer with their kids and it’s actually shown and not told. The kids themselves are actually better characters than I expected them to be. I thought that they would be used just as an excuse to make their fathers act in a certain way, or maybe as a mcguffin from time to time (that does happen) but no. Almost all have their problems and mini (very mini) arcs and development. It’s actually a shame that their development is treated mostly as background noise because I would love to see a deeper exploration of Theodore and Raphael's mental states and the way they cope with their problems. Those were really good story ideas, but unfortunately they were all cut short because of the mystery plot. It’s a constant problem. When the mystery plot is getting good it’s snuffed out by the child caring plot. When the child caring plot is getting good, it’s cut short by the mystery plot. Those two plots are pretty much disjointed apart from two moments when the kids decide to run away. Those are the only moments when the plots almost work together. Almost. Unfortunately because of the way they are handled it’s rather painful to watch how those two plots fight for Your attention and destroy each other’s internal logic because of it. I don’t want to say this show is bad. If You don’t think about it too much it can be entertaining and I totally understand people that give it a high score but I think even they understand how bad the ending and the climax truly are.
